The Public Sector Banking Group, within the firm’s Municipal Banking and Markets Group, provides on-balance-sheet financing solutions, including loans, letters of credit, and other credit products—to state and municipal clients, such as cities, counties, school districts, public universities, public utilities and transportation authorities.
Job Description:
This role is primarily responsible for independently underwriting and structuring transactions; preparing and presenting credit packages for prospective opportunities; and evaluating clients’ credit quality, economic and sector conditions, repayment capacity, and key risks through quantitative and qualitative analysis. The role collaborates with Municipal Credit Officers, Risk Management, Investment Bankers, Client Managers, and clients, and works with external bank counsel to document transactions. Responsibilities also include ensuring compliance with credit policies, guidelines, and applicable regulatory requirements; managing assigned portfolios; overseeing all related monitoring and administrative activities; and coaching and mentoring junior municipal credit employees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partners with coverage teams to evaluate opportunities and provide the product expertise needed to deliver effective client solutions
- Works with Credit Officers, Global Market Credit, and Risk partners to assess and deliver appropriate credit solutions
- Develops transaction structures, conducts underwriting and analysis, and provides credit recommendations
- Evaluates financial, industry, economic, and other relevant factors to recommend appropriate client exposure
- Negotiates client relationships while ensuring adherence to credit policies, guidelines, and applicable regulatory requirements
- Assesses the financial condition of clients and prospects, together with relevant industry, economic, and market factors
- Gathers background and financial information, communicates the bank’s position, and negotiates client relationships
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, public administration, related field, or equivalent work experience
- Seven to ten years of experience in commercial or municipal credit analysis, transaction structuring, financial markets, municipal finance, or government administration
- Familiarity with loan and bond documentation
- Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present work persuasively
- Sound judgment, logical reasoning, and a strong results orientation
- Ability to work independently and manage shifting priorities
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a virtual team across geographic locations
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
