Description
Overview
Navitas Systems is looking for a self-motivated Senior Verification and Validation Engineer to support and improve our existing Battery Management Systems product line while also helping establish the verification strategy, test infrastructure, and engineering practices for our next generation platform. This is an opportunity to join at the foundational stage of development and have a direct impact on how our future products are verified, validated, and released.
As part of our engineering team, this position will contribute across the product development V-model and take ownership of verification activities from requirements and test planning through system integration and production release. The ideal candidate has strong embedded systems fundamentals, hands on test experience, and the ability to develop repeatable verification methods across software, electronics, communications, and complete battery systems.
Responsibilities
- Develop verification plans and test cases directly from system, software, hardware, and product requirements.
- Establish and maintain requirements based traceability between requirements, test cases, test results, defects, and product releases.
- Develop and execute verification at multiple levels including software integration, SIL, HIL, bench, system, and battery pack testing.
- Design and implement automated regression testing for BMS software and system functionality.
- Develop and maintain test environments, fixtures, harnesses, simulation interfaces, and supporting test equipment.
- Verify BMS functions including protection, diagnostics, communications, cell monitoring, balancing, contactor control, battery state estimation, and system level behavior.
- Own complex verification issues that cross software, hardware, communications, and battery system boundaries, driving problems through root cause and resolution.
- Work directly with Systems, Software, Hardware, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Quality, and Field Application teams to define verification methods and support complete product development.
- Evaluate verification coverage, identify gaps, and improve test effectiveness, repeatability, and automation.
- Support development and implementation of structured engineering processes for verification planning, test execution, regression testing, defect management, and release readiness.
- Provide technical direction and oversight for verification activities performed by external engineering partners and test laboratories.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related discipline.
- 7+ years of verification, validation, embedded systems testing, or related product development experience.
- Experience owning verification activities through multiple stages of the V model, including requirements analysis, test planning, test case development, execution, defect resolution, and release support.
- Experience testing embedded products that interface with electronics, sensors, communications, and control hardware.
- Experience developing automated test environments and regression testing for embedded systems.
- Battery, automotive, aerospace, medical device, power electronics, industrial controls, or similar safety critical product experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of requirements based verification and traceability.
- Experience developing test plans, test procedures, test cases, and objective pass or fail criteria.
- Experience with SIL, HIL, automated bench testing, or comparable embedded system verification methods.
- Experience with CAN communications protocols and UDS using tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, or similar.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot interactions between software, hardware, communications, and test equipment.
- Experience with automated test tools and scripting using Python, C, C++, MATLAB, CAPL, or similar environments.
- Experience with test equipment such as programmable power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, CAN interfaces, and digital multimeters.
- Experience with requirements management and traceability tools such as Polarion, Visure, Jama, DOORS, or similar.
- Demonstrated ability to take an ambiguous verification objective, define the required test strategy, and independently drive it to completion.
- Proven ability to investigate failures across software, hardware, systems, and test boundaries rather than working only within predefined test procedures.
- Comfortable working in a small engineering team to be both technically hands on and accountable for product results.
- Able to communicate test results, risks, failures, and recommendations clearly across engineering disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct lithium ion battery or BMS verification and validation experience.
- Experience developing or maintaining HIL environments using dSPACE, Vector, NI, MxV, or similar platforms.
- MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, model based development, or generated code verification experience.
- Functional safety experience with ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or comparable safety critical development standards.
- ASPICE or V model comparable structured product development experience.
- Experience with automated regression testing integrated into CI/CD environments such as GitLab/Github or Jenkins.
- Experience with verification coverage analysis, defect tracking, release readiness, and test reporting.
- Experience supporting certification, compliance testing, customer audits, or external test laboratories.
