Description
Lead a Team. Make an Impact.
At BetterBody Foods, we create better-for-you products and depend on strong production teams to make it happen. We are looking for a hands-on Production Manager whose objective is process improvement using Lean mythologies, who enjoys coaching employees, solving problems, and keeping production running safely and efficiently.
Known internally as a Value Stream Leader, this position reports to the Value Stream Manager and directly supervises approximately 6–8 production team members. Your focus will be to lead continuous improvement with Lean Leadership through daily operations, helping employees succeed, and supporting improvements in safety, quality, and productivity.
What You’ll Do
- Lead a culture of continuous improvement by engaging employees in identifying waste, solving problems, and improving daily operations.
- Apply Lean principles to improve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost across the value stream.
- Maintain a strong production-floor presence through regular Gemba walks, employee coaching, and direct observation of processes.
- Establish, maintain, and improve standard work to support safe, consistent, and efficient operations.
- Lead daily performance meetings using visual management to communicate targets, review results, identify gaps, and assign corrective actions.
- Use structured problem-solving methods, including PDCA, 5 Whys, and fishbone analysis, to identify root causes and prevent recurring problems.
- Lead and support Kaizen activities focused on reducing downtime, scrap, changeover time, waiting, and other production losses.
- Use value stream mapping and process analysis to identify bottlenecks, improve flow, and prioritize improvement opportunities.
- Develop employees’ problem-solving capabilities and encourage participation in improvement activities.
- Track improvement results, establish clear ownership, and incorporate successful changes into training and standard work.
- Balance daily production requirements with longer-term improvements that strengthen operational performance.
- Lead and develop your team. Assign work, provide clear direction in English and Spanish, train employees, and support hiring, performance reviews, and corrective action.
- Keep production on schedule. Coordinate staffing, materials, and workflow to meet production goals within the labor budget.
- Put safety and food quality first. Reinforce safe work practices and ensure employees follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and Safe Quality Food (SQF) requirements.
- Solve problems and improve performance. Monitor production results, address issues promptly, and apply Lean principles to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
- Support reliable equipment and line operations. Coordinate line setups and changeovers, work with Maintenance to resolve equipment issues, and prepare lines for a smooth handoff to the next shift.
- Maintain accurate production information. Review batch records, monitor material usage, and ensure production reports and Redzone data are complete and reliable.
- Coordinate across departments. Work with Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Human Resources, and material handlers to support daily operations.
- Manage employee time and attendance. Review and approve timecards and coordinate time-off requests to maintain appropriate staffing.
- Build a respectful team environment. Set clear expectations, provide consistent feedback, and foster a safe, inclusive, and productive workplace.
