Job Description
Take Your Cultural Resources Career to the Next Level
Kleinfelder, a Forbes' Top Employer for Engineers in North America, is committed to a people-first culture, technical excellence, and creating opportunities where employees can thrive!
Cultural Resources professionals work on exciting projects involving the identification, preservation, and management of historic, archaeological, and culturally significant sites and resources. They help to ensure that roads, bridges, pipelines, buildings, and other development projects do not accidentally damage important historical sites, archaeological artifacts, cemeteries, or places that have cultural significance to communities and tribes.
The Central Division Cultural Resources Program is expanding to meet increasing demand across transmission, renewable energy, transportation, mining, federal, and infrastructure projects throughout Colorado and the western United States. We are seeking an experienced Project Professional to provide senior-level archaeological and cultural resources expertise, project management leadership, regulatory compliance support, client engagement, and technical oversight.
This position is intended to strengthen our senior cultural resources leadership team and provide immediate support for large-scale utility, energy, and federal programs requiring Section 106 compliance, cultural resource inventories, monitoring, agency coordination, and technical quality review. The successful candidate will serve as a project manager and senior technical resource while supporting business development, mentoring staff, and helping position Kleinfelder for continued growth within the cultural resources marketplace.
This role is particularly valuable given the increasing workload associated with transmission, renewable energy, and infrastructure projects throughout the Central Division. The position requires a professional with extensive experience managing multidisciplinary projects, coordinating with federal and state agencies, and leading cultural resources programs from proposal through project completion.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage cultural resources projects from planning through completion.
- Lead archaeological surveys, monitoring programs, site evaluations, and cultural resource compliance efforts.
- Serve as Principal Investigator and Project Manager on federal, state, and private-sector projects.
- Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans.
- Prepare and review technical reports, treatment plans, monitoring reports, and agency deliverables.
- Support Section 106 and National Historic Preservation Act compliance activities.
- Coordinate with federal agencies, State Historic Preservation Offices, Tribal representatives, clients, and regulatory stakeholders.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control reviews for cultural resources deliverables.
- Support business development activities including proposal preparation, fee estimates, and client relationship management.
- Mentor junior archaeologists, cultural resources specialists, and project staff.
- Support environmental permitting and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Assist with strategic growth initiatives for the Central Division Cultural Resources Program.
- Participate in construction monitoring programs associated with transmission, transportation, water, mining, and renewable energy projects.
Position Requirements:
- Master's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field.
- Meets or exceeds Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualifications Standards for Archaeology.
- Minimum 15+ years of progressively responsible cultural resources experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing archaeological and cultural resources projects.
- Extensive knowledge of:
- National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA)
- Section 106 compliance
- Federal permitting processes
- Cultural resources inventory and evaluation methods
- Agency coordination and consultation requirements
- Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and client management skills.
- Ability to serve as Principal Investigator on archaeological projects.
- Proven experience completing technical studies and reports for federal, state, and commercial clients.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel for project assignments throughout the western United States.
Preferred Skills:
- Extensive experience working throughout Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region.
- Previous experience with State Historic Preservation Offices, federal agencies, and large infrastructure programs.
- Expertise in cultural resource database management and GIS applications.
- Experience supporting transmission, renewable energy, transportation, mining, and federal projects.
- Proven success managing large-scale cultural resources programs.
- Established relationships with regulatory agencies within Colorado and surrounding western states.
- Demonstrated leadership of field crews, project managers, and technical specialists.
- Experience mentoring staff and supporting technical growth initiatives.
- Business development and client account management experience.
Following an offer, candidates will be required to satisfactorily complete employment reference checks, verification of professional licensure and/or educational credentials, a motor vehicle report (MVR), and a comprehensive background check.
