Build Your Career with Main Industries

For over 50 years, Main Industries has been a trusted leader in the marine and industrial services industry. From our beginnings as a premier marine coatings company, we've grown into a multi-craft leader specializing in surface preparation, protective coatings, scaffolding, and industrial access solutions.

We're seeking an experienced and proactive Field Safety Supervisor to support our marine and industrial operations. This position provides hands-on safety leadership in the field, working closely with employees, supervisors, project teams, and customers to promote safe work practices, identify hazards, and ensure compliance with company policies and applicable safety requirements. If you're a strong safety professional who is comfortable spending your day in active shipyard and industrial environments, we'd like to hear from you.

Pay: Competitive compensation, depending on experience, qualifications, and certifications.

Location: Hampton, Virginia, with regular travel to local and regional jobsites as required.

What You'll Do

As a Field Safety Supervisor, you'll provide daily safety oversight and support for marine and industrial field operations. You'll conduct jobsite inspections, identify and correct hazards, coach employees and supervisors on safe work practices, support safety training and incident investigations, and help ensure compliance with company, customer, OSHA, shipyard, and project-specific safety requirements.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide visible, hands-on safety leadership at active marine, shipyard, and industrial jobsites.
  • Conduct routine jobsite safety inspections, observations, and audits to identify unsafe conditions, behaviors, and work practices.
  • Immediately address serious safety concerns and work with field supervision to implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Monitor field activities for compliance with company safety policies, customer requirements, project-specific safety plans, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Support safe work activities involving abrasive blasting, protective coatings, scaffolding, containment, confined spaces, fall protection, respiratory protection, aerial lifts, forklifts, and other marine and industrial operations.
  • Conduct or participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, pre-job briefings, and job hazard analyses.
  • Assist supervisors and employees with identifying hazards and developing effective controls before work begins.
  • Verify employees are using required personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and consistently.
  • Monitor compliance with fall protection, confined-space entry, respiratory protection, Lockout/Tagout, and other applicable safety programs.
  • Review jobsite conditions and work activities to ensure required permits, documentation, barricades, signage, and safety controls are in place.
  • Provide safety coaching and guidance to employees, Foremen, Lead Builders, Superintendents, and project leadership.
  • Promote employee engagement in safety and encourage employees to report hazards, near misses, and safety concerns.
  • Assist with new-hire safety orientations and project-specific safety onboarding.
  • Conduct or coordinate safety training and refresher training as assigned.
  • Respond to incidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, and other safety events.
  • Assist with incident investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and required documentation.
  • Track corrective actions and follow up to ensure identified safety issues are resolved.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate safety inspection reports, incident documentation, training records, and other required records.
  • Communicate safety trends, recurring hazards, and areas of concern to Safety and Operations leadership.
  • Participate in customer safety meetings, project meetings, and jobsite coordination meetings as required.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with customer safety representatives, shipyard personnel, subcontractors, and project teams.
  • Support continuous improvement of company safety programs, procedures, and field practices.
  • Exercise stop-work authority when an imminent danger or serious unsafe condition exists and ensure work does not resume until appropriate controls are implemented.
  • Work effectively with Operations, Project Management, Human Resources, Quality Control, and field leadership to support safe and successful project execution.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous safety experience in a marine, shipyard, construction, industrial, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and general industry or construction safety practices.
