About the opportunity

The Sydney Nano Foundry (SNF) is a leading research facility supporting researchers across diverse disciplines through access to advanced nanofabrication infrastructure and expertise.

As the Process Engineer: Nanofabrication, you will play a key role in enabling cutting-edge research by providing expert technical support, maintaining specialised fabrication equipment, and delivering high-quality outcomes in a collaborative cleanroom environment. Working closely with researchers, students and technical staff, you will contribute to the operation and development of nanofabrication capabilities, while ensuring the facility maintains the highest standards of safety, reliability and service delivery.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • operate, maintain and optimise specialised nanofabrication equipment, including high-performance electron beam lithography systems
  • develop, implement and document fabrication processes, workflows and experimental protocols that support research requirements
  • train and assess users in the safe and effective operation of cleanroom equipment and nanofabrication techniques
  • oversee day-to-day cleanroom operations, including equipment maintenance, consumable management, inventory monitoring and waste disposal
  • ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety requirements through risk assessments, safe work procedures and continuous improvement initiatives

About you

  • a bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, materials science, nanotechnology or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience
  • demonstrated experience supporting research and technical activities within a cleanroom, nanofabrication facility or specialised research environment
  • hands-on experience operating, maintaining and troubleshooting advanced micro- and nanofabrication equipment, ideally including electron beam lithography systems
  • experience designing, conducting and supporting experimental research, process development and characterisation activities
  • strong knowledge of laboratory safety practices, hazardous substances management and Work Health and Safety requirements
  • excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with researchers and technical stakeholders
