As an Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for driving labor efficiency improvements within an assigned cluster of processes through innovative automation solutions. You will work closely with process, equipment, and new product owners to identify opportunities, design solutions, and implement them in partnership with automation vendors. This role involves leading all stages of automation projects—from idea generation and design to deployment and production release. Additionally, you will provide feedback on automation design rules to support new product introductions.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Site Manufacturing and Engineering teams to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Analyze process flows, product movement, equipment layouts, and operator assignments to uncover labor inefficiencies.
- Organize brainstorming sessions with cross-functional teams to generate improvement ideas.
- Evaluate proposals based on ROI, quality, and safety/ergonomics impact.
- Present improvement ideas to management for approval.
- Design automation solutions through benchmarking and vendor collaboration.
- Research and apply best practices in industrial automation.
- Select suppliers using decision-making analysis tools and partner with them to design solutions.
- Plan and manage projects within defined scope, budget, and timelines.
- Lead implementation of automation solutions through production release.
- Serve as the primary interface with automation vendors throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain collaboration with process and equipment owners to ensure objectives are met.
- Conduct regular meetings with cross-functional teams to support successful production ramp-up.
- Direct and coordinate engineering activities related to development, procurement, installation, and calibration of instruments, equipment, and control devices.
- Define test conditions and oversee operational, functional, and performance phases.
- Analyze and interpret test data and prepare technical reports for engineering teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master Degree in Mechanical, Electrical/Electronics, Mechatronics or automation-related disciplines.
- Project management experience preferably relevant to automation equipment related disciplines.
- Preferably with >2 years of working experience as an Engineer in a semiconductor or manufacturing environment with Automation background.
- Strong problem-solving knowledge with recognized systematic approach.
- Good organizational skills and ability to follow assignments through to completion and meet timelines with commitment to task and attention to details.
- Demonstrate Independent, teamwork and hands-on attitude with safety and quality mindset.
Knowledge & Technical Skills:
Automation Systems :
AMHS, AGV, ASRS, robotics, PLCs, motion control.
Backend Applications :
CMF MES, MAM, CSM, SAP, RMS, ET, etc.
Productivity & Collaboration Tools:
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, JMP, etc.
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
