Description
Assist assigned plumbers in the installation and repair of plumbing fixtures including pipe and gas systems; assist in all types of plumbing and pipefitting tasks and assist with maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems.

High school diploma or GED supplemented by thirty (30) credit hours vocational training in plumbing, or heating and cooling systems; and
One (1) year plumbing or pipefitting experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Environmental:
Indoor and outdoor environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, fumes, infectious waste and inclement weather conditions.
Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing, walking, crouching, and bending for prolonged periods; light to moderate lifting; and operating motorized vehicles.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essentialfunctions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Mustbe able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without areasonable accommodation.
- Assist in all types of plumbing and pipe-fitting tasks required in the installation and repair of sprinkler systems, drinking fountains and rest room facilities.
- Carry material and equipment to the designated location; cut pipes to the correct length using pipe cutters; thread pipe with stock and dies; bend pipe if necessary.
- Attach required valves, fittings, and controls to repair plumbing and gas systems; pour molten lead over pipe joints to seal them; test pipe system to identify the presence of leaks.
- Assist with the installation, connection, testing and maintenance of boilers, water heaters, air-conditioning and refrigeration .systems, cooling towers and steam generators.
- Lay-out, install and maintain plumbing for water sprinkler systems for parks and playgrounds.
- Assist with the repair of major plumbing breakdowns such as clogged sewers, drains and fixtures.
- Participate in the installation and repair of vents and venting needed for water-heating equipment.
- Monitor boiler controls, evaluate water levels, pressure, and temperature.
- Perform basic repairs of furnaces, boiler, air-conditioning and refrigeration units.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
