JOB SUMMARY: A Teacher at Logan River Academy is responsible for providing tailored instruction and behavioral interventions to students with diverse learning, behavioral and emotional needs. IEPs, ISPs, BIPs and the LRA Positive Behavioral Plan are essential documents to study, know and adhere to when planning a program for each student. Each teacher will help create, modify and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Individual Service Plans ISPs for all students.  These documents will include a Behavioral Improvement Plan (BIP) which was approved by LEAs, Parents and us when we offered admission.  The mission of each Teacher is to propel the progress of each student toward accomplishment of both academic and behavioral objectives as specified in these key documents.

Requirements

  

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

1. Develops and implements lesson plans tailored to IEPs and ISPs, inclusive of BIPs, for each student.

2. Creates a safe and inviting classroom environment, adapting to the learning styles of each student.

3. Adapts and modifies grade level content material to meet individual learning needs. 

4. Conducts assessments to determine student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.

5. Uses approved interventions to handle a student's behavioral needs by collaborating with TAs & Paras.

6. Models positive interactions and calmly participates in applying de-escalation strategies.

7. Collaborates with all educational staff to ensure the integrity of quality instructional and behavioral plans.

8. Aligns curriculum and lesson plans with UT state standards and IEPs, ISPs and BIPs of each student.

9. Provides regular reports to referral sources, parents/guardians on each student s/he teaches.

10. Attends IEP meetings and professionally discusses the objectives therein with referral sources and parents.

11. Maintains a valid teaching certificate/license with endorsements as specified under Qualifications below. 

12. Attends development and continuing education opportunities as responsible professionals must do.

13. Directs the activities of assigned Paras and TAs, effecting maximum involvement of students at all times. 

14. Pursues endorsement (if only Subject Matter certified) in SPED at the rate of ___ credit hours per year.

15. Learns to draft and negotiate IEP objectives, serving on development teams of designated students.

9. Follows all safety regulations and does not hesitate to suggest changes that might improve safety.  

10. Pursues continuous professional growth in order to enhance both student and personal performance.

11. Demonstrates an understanding of the LRA Positive Behavior Plan by consistently using it with students.    

12. Uses IEP, ISP and BIP objectives when planning instructional, recreation and residential activities.

13. Completes necessary documentation within times specified in policies and procedures.
14. Reviews critical incidents and participates in root-cause analysis as requested by the Compliance Officer.  

15. Supports and promotes the LRA values of diversity, equity and inclusion for all staff and students.

16. Greets all visitors, parents and reviewers with a smile and the utmost respect.  

17. Models ethical behavior when resolving misunderstandings, disagreements and conflicts.


QUALIFICATIONS:

a. Current Utah teaching license.

b. Bachelor’s degree

c. Effective oral and written communication skills.

d. Experience working with students with special needs in an educational setting.

e. Knowledge of human behavior, social interactions, and psychology is useful.

f. Proficiency in telephone, computer, and face-to-face customer service skills.

g. Familiarity with State Board of Education accreditation processes and requirements.

h. Willingness to get dual certified in SPED

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

A. Continuously use hands for simple and firm grasping and fine manipulation.

B. Physically able to bend, stand, stoop, or sit for long periods of time. 

C. Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. 

D. Push / Pull up to 100 lbs. 

E. Possible restraining of escalated residents 

F. Short periods of running
