Job Description

The Nevada Office of Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (NV WICHE), within the Nevada System of Higher Education, is recruiting for a Program Officer 1. This position will be in Reno, Nevada. *This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding.

The NV WICHE office operates three programs, which provide tuition assistance to individuals studying various allied health professions in exchange for employment commitments upon graduation. Employment commitments serve as a tool to increase Nevada’s health profession workforce.

The Program Officer 1 will maintain oversight of the NV WICHE programs, with duties that include the collection, analysis, and reporting of applicant and participant activities to demonstrate compliance with requirements. The position also responds to questions and resolves problems related to administration of NV WICHE programs.  In addition, the position supports the Director in administrative duties such as financial reporting, collection of loan repayment revenue and NV WICHE Commission meetings.

Essential Qualifications

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, or other discipline related to the program assignment; OR

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two (2) years of para-professional program support experience equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service which required the application of State and/or federal laws, policy and procedures; reviewing documents prepared by others for program compliance determinations; or preparing reports which summarize financial and statistical information; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

A valid class "C" driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook, experience working with database information, and attention to detail are encouraged to apply.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 31

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate’s qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
