The key purpose of this role is to be responsible for managing the operations of the logistics function within VOPs, ensuring that VOPs raw materials and finished goods handling, storage and transportation function is executed in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner whilst ensuring alignment with the VOPs and Breweries. The role contributes to the Supply Strategy, requiring high standards and execution of activities focussed in Safety, Quality, Volume and Cost. Manage both the logistics Strategy and the VPO process. Responsible for supporting, identifying and investigating opportunities to optimize and transform logistics activities associated with the movement of goods to VOPs and from VOPs to the breweries, coupled with a strong partnership with the Zone Logistics Team.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Ensuring safety is first priority in all operations
Provide visibility about Barley and Malt logistics, and performance indicator (Service Level, Inventory Levels, costs, performance, people development)
Responsible for Costs, ZBB, Capex
Manage Asset Risks
VPO alignment and implementation
Controlling the routines and SOPs
VOPs tactical plans Management
Centralization of malt and barley distribution activities
Implement and monitor the optimized Malt and Barley transportation in Southern Africa
Direct and manage all VOP logistics
Compile the raw materials purchase plan (annual and amended on at least a monthly basis)
Manage Imported Logistics
Identify shortfall of locally produced raw materials and provide Procurement with an overview of imported needs and scheduling in order to plan and order imported raw materials to meet customer and production requirements, based on blending philosophy
Determine, plan and manage distribution of imported raw materials to the VOP plants, minimizing handling and transport
Direct and monitor discharge of imported raw materials and ensure sound working relationships between relevant parties -surveyor, agent, stevedore, TFR and TPT, in order to minimize delays and resultant ship and rail demurrage costs
Plan and schedule Malt Production
Compile the macro malt production and sales plan (annual and amended on at least a monthly basis)
Specify in the plans the ratios of different barley varieties to be processed
Manage Product Sales
Custodian of all Raw Material and Product Stocks
Own all stock holding standards, inventory control for barley and malt, and working capital impact
Manage the interaction and engagement with external service providers
Minimum Requirements:
3-year tertiary degree/diploma, preferably in Supply Chain or Engineering. Logistic would be an added advantage.
3 to 5 years experience in logistics/supply/ procurement chain in an FMCG environment/agriculture industry
Understanding of end-to-end logistics process
Computer literacy, especially SAP/Syspro and advanced excel skills
Basic knowledge of foreign trade costs and regulations
Strong analytical ability to convert data into valuable business insights
