Description

Diagnostic Callback Veterinarian (Part-Time)

DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented veterinarian to join our team in a unique part-time role focused exclusively on communicating diagnostic results and treatment recommendations to clients.

This position is ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys client communication, medical interpretation, and helping families navigate complex medical information without the demands of an active clinical caseload. By providing timely follow-up conversations after diagnostic testing, you will play a critical role in ensuring continuity of care, improving the client experience, and supporting our specialty and emergency teams.

About DoveLewis

For more than 50 years, DoveLewis has provided exceptional emergency and specialty veterinary care to the Portland community. We are an AAHA-accredited, VECCS Level I emergency and specialty hospital and one of only a few nonprofit veterinary hospitals in the country.

Our collaborative culture, commitment to excellence, and mission-driven approach allow our doctors to practice outstanding medicine while making a meaningful difference for pets, clients, and our community.

Position Summary

The Diagnostic Callback Veterinarian serves as a dedicated resource for communicating diagnostic findings and treatment recommendations to clients following interpretation of laboratory results, imaging studies, pathology reports, and other diagnostic testing.

Working closely with specialists, emergency clinicians, and support staff, this veterinarian ensures clients receive timely, compassionate, and medically accurate follow-up care. This role focuses on communication and continuity rather than primary case management.

  • Clearly explain medical findings in a compassionate, understandable manner.
  • Review recommendations from attending veterinarians and specialists with clients.
  • Answer client questions regarding diagnoses, treatment recommendations, medications, monitoring, and next steps.
  • Document all client communications thoroughly within the medical record.
  • Coordinate follow-up appointments, referrals, or additional diagnostics as appropriate.
  • Collaborate closely with specialty services, emergency clinicians, referral coordinators, and client service teams to ensure continuity of care.
  • Identify cases requiring escalation to the attending clinician or specialty service.
  • Provide exceptional client service while supporting DoveLewis' commitment to outstanding patient care.

Schedule

  • Part-time position
  • Approximately 4 hours per day
  • Flexible scheduling options may be available
  • Remote work may be considered after successful onboarding and demonstration of competency, depending on operational needs
