Description
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Long-Haul Driver who is responsible for providing secure, DOT-compliant transportation services involving classified materials, equipment, and documents. This role ensures full compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Government security requirements for the transport of sensitive and classified cargo. The driver will perform pre-trip inspections, maintain accurate driving logs, and follow all chain of custody security procedures. This role is also responsible for building aircraft pallets, preparing shipping documentation, and operating material handling equipment to load and offload trucks and aircraft. The ideal candidate will have a CDL and an understanding of air cargo operations, safety procedures, and documentation requirements, including hazardous materials declarations and chain-of-custody controls. This position may also require acting as a security escort for uncleared individuals during transport operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Operate commercial vehicles in compliance with DOT regulations and company procedures.
- Operate as a member of a long-haul driving team to ensure customer missions are effectively coordinated, scheduled, and performed.
- Transport classified and unclassified materials, equipment, documents, and freight between offsite locations and facilities to include intra and interstate runs.
- Perform DOT-mandated pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and readiness.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date DOT driving hour logbooks.
- Ensure proper handling, documentation, and secure transport of classified and sensitive materials.
- Build and configure aircraft pallets for transport, ensuring materials are properly secured, balanced, and compliant with loading specifications.
- Complete and maintain accurate chain-of-custody documentation, including shipping manifests and hazardous material declarations.
- Load and offload cargo from aircraft using forklifts, k-loaders, and other appropriate material handling equipment.
- Transport materials between warehouse storage locations and flight line or staging areas.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, security, and transportation regulations and procedures.
- Inspect cargo and materials for proper labeling, packaging, and load distribution.
- Adhere to all Government security protocols and chain of custody requirements.
- Act as a security escort for uncleared individuals, when required.
- Retrieve materials from vendors and ensure accurate recordkeeping of transported items.
- Follow all safety protocols to ensure the integrity and security of cargo during transit.
- Support classified waste transport activities in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Maintain a clean driving record and ensure all licenses and certifications remain current.
Basic Qualifications
- Must have a TS/SCI with Poly to be considered
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Requires a CDL (Commercial Drivers License)
- 5+ years of relevant driving experience.
- Basic knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems as they apply to automotive equipment.
- Strong understanding of safety practices, preventive maintenance procedures, and quality control standards.
- Familiarity with standard automotive hand and power tools.
- Ability to perform routine inspections, brake adjustments, wheel alignments, and wiring repairs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification(s) or equivalent professional credentials.
- Experience working with a variety of vehicle types including buses, forklifts, and heavy-duty trucks.
- Specialized training or experience in hydraulics, cooling systems, and air brakes.
- Knowledge of energy-efficient practices in automotive maintenance.
- Familiarity with root cause failure analysis and troubleshooting methods.
- Experience maintaining maintenance records and adhering to compliance or inspection protocols.
- Working knowledge of safety assurance practices in high-risk environments (e.g., military, government, industrial fleets).
- Ability to work with minimal supervision on complex diagnostic and repair tasks.
- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or digital diagnostic platforms.
- Strong attention to safety detail and ability to ensure compliance with technical specifications and regulatory requirements.
