Job Description

Family Best Care is hiring an experienced, dependable caregiver for an ongoing in-home care assignment on Harstine Island in the Shelton, Washington area.

This position offers a consistent Wednesday–Friday schedule providing one-on-one care for a client with memory care needs.

We are looking for a compassionate, patient, and reliable caregiver who is comfortable assisting with daily routines, providing companionship, offering reassurance, and responding calmly to changing care needs.

IMPORTANT: This position is located on Harstine Island and requires a reliable daily commute. The client resides in a smoking household. Applicants must be comfortable working in an environment where cigarette smoking occurs and may be exposed to cigarette smoke during their shifts.

Schedule

• Days: Wednesday–Friday
• Hours: 11:00 AM–7:00 PM
• Total: 24 scheduled hours per week
• Assignment: Ongoing, consistent client placement
• Applicants must be available for all three scheduled days and able to commit to the assignment long-term.

• Reliable transportation, punctuality, and consistent attendance are essential.
• This position requires working in a smoking household.

Caregiver Responsibilities

• Provide companionship, conversation, and meaningful engagement.
• Support a client with memory care needs through patience, reassurance, and gentle redirection.
• Assist with activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and personal hygiene as needed.
• Help maintain consistent daily routines.
• Prepare meals and encourage appropriate hydration and nutrition.
• Provide mobility assistance and fall prevention support as needed.
• Monitor and report changes in the client's physical condition, behavior, or care needs.
• Complete light housekeeping related to the client's care.
• Follow the established care plan and complete accurate, timely documentation.
• Maintain professional communication with the Family Best Care office regarding client updates or concerns.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a caregiver who:

• Has previous professional caregiving experience.
• Has experience providing memory care or supporting individuals with dementia.
• Is compassionate, patient, attentive, and dependable.
• Can provide calm reassurance and redirection when needed.
• Understands the importance of consistency and maintaining familiar routines.
• Communicates professionally with clients, families, and office staff.
• Can recognize changes in a client's condition and report concerns promptly.
• Is committed to arriving on time and completing all scheduled shifts.
• Is comfortable working in a household where cigarette smoking occurs.
• Can reliably commute to Harstine Island for every scheduled shift.

Pay and Benefits

• Competitive Pay: $26–$28 per hour
• Overtime compensation at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate, when applicable.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

• Previous professional caregiving experience.
• Active Washington State HCA, CNA, or NAC credential.
• Current TB screening documentation.
• Current CPR certification.
• Current Washington State Food Worker Card.
• Valid government-issued photo identification.
• Reliable transportation to and from Harstine Island.
• Reliable phone access for work-related communication.
• Ability to complete all required employment and onboarding documentation.
• Availability Wednesday–Friday, 11:00 AM–7:00 PM.
• Experience or comfort supporting clients with memory care needs.
• Must be comfortable working in a smoking household, including potential exposure to cigarette smoke.
• Ability to commit to an ongoing, consistent schedule.
