About our Maternity Unit
- Modern 6‑bed Birthing Suite designed for safe, calm and personalised birthing experiences
- 6‑cot Level 3 Special Care Nursery (SCN) providing specialised care for unwell or premature babies
- 22‑bed antenatal/postnatal ward, plus onsite CTG service, antenatal clinics and lactation support
- K2 Guardian Fetal Monitoring System for continuous, real‑time fetal surveillance and enhanced clinical decision-making
- We welcomed 974 births last year and tracking toward 1,000+ births this year — a vibrant, growing maternity service
Your Position at St John of God Berwick Hospital
You will take time with patients and their families, supporting them through every step of their journey to becoming a parent.
Our midwives are dedicated to providing all aspects of pregnancy, birth and postnatal care across our antenatal clinics and services, maternity wards and Birth Suite, as well as caring for babies in our Special Care Nursery.

The Position
- Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate patient care, seeking support from senior staff as required.
- Provide safe, high-quality midwifery care across the Birth Suite and postnatal areas.
- Support women and families throughout labour, birth and the postnatal period.
- Promote and contribute to effective communication, facilitating teamwork and cooperation within the ward and across the hospital.
- Provide patient education and act as a resource for patients, families and colleagues where appropriate.
- Support and supervise staff and students as required, including orientating and preceptoring staff.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will be a Registered Midwife with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) through AHPRA, together with a strong commitment to quality patient care and satisfaction.
You will have:
- Demonstrated recent experience working across Birth Suite and postnatal care – this is essential.
- Experience providing midwifery care throughout labour, birth and the postnatal period.
- The ability to work effectively and harmoniously within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- A commitment to ongoing education and professional development.
- A strong commitment to providing compassionate, family-centred care.

The Benefits

- Salary $85,480 to $107,881 per annum plus 12% superannuation
