Job Description: Lead Mechanical Engineer

Data Centre Project, Dholera

Position Summary

Lead Mechanical Engineer responsible for overseeing mechanical systems design, installation, and commissioning for mission-critical data centre facility in Dholera. Manage HVAC, precision cooling, plumbing, and fire suppression systems to deliver world-class infrastructure meeting Tier III/IV standards.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

• Oversee all mechanical engineering aspects including cooling systems, HVAC, fire suppression, and BMS integration
• Review and approve designs, specifications, and drawings per NBC, IS standards, and Uptime Institute requirements
• Specify critical equipment: chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, precision cooling, pumps, and fire systems
• Ensure redundancy configurations (N+1, 2N) meet uptime and energy efficiency targets

Project Execution

• Coordinate with Client team, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities
• Lead technical coordination across electrical, structural, and architectural disciplines
• Conduct site inspections and approve contractor submittals and shop drawings
• Resolve construction issues while maintaining schedule and budget

Commissioning & Compliance

• Develop and execute commissioning plans for all mechanical systems
• Oversee FAT, SAT, and integrated systems testing
• Ensure compliance with Indian codes and data centre industry standards
• Maintain comprehensive project documentation and as-built drawings

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

• BE/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
• 12-15 years in mechanical engineering; minimum 8 years in mission-critical facilities
• Experience with large-scale data centre projects (5+ MW capacity)
• Knowledge of Indian building codes and procurement practices

Technical Skills

• Expert in data centre cooling systems, chilled water plants, and containment strategies
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, HAP, and CFD modeling
• Strong understanding of fire suppression systems and BMS/DCIM integration
• CDCP/CDCE certification or ASHRAE membership preferred

Core Competencies

• Excellent problem-solving under pressure
• Clear communication of technical concepts
• Proven track record delivering projects on time and budget

Work Location

Project site in Dholera, Gujarat. Full-time presence required during construction and commissioning phases. Extended hours and occasional travel to vendor facilities expected.

Reporting

Reports to Project Director with functional reporting to JLL Technical Director. Direct oversight of mechanical consultants and contractors.
