Description
- Lead the architecture, design, and validation of a low noise, high reliability data acquisition system powered and communicated through an inductive airgap link.
- Develop analog front end circuitry, including high resolution ADC interfaces, filtering networks, clocking, low noise preconditioning, and signal integrity safeguards.
- Design and optimize inductive power transfer systems, including coil and magnetics design, high efficiency driver stages, rectification, regulation, and DC/DC power conversion.
- Implement and validate digital communication methods over an inductive link (modulation schemes, encoding, error correction, data integrity strategies).
- Oversee custom analog/digital PCB development, including schematic ownership, layout review, and compliance with mixed signal best practices.
- Integrate DAQ, power, and communication subsystems into electromechanical assemblies intended for maritime or underwater operation.
- Perform system level troubleshooting and refinement using laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, and digital probes.
- Collaborate closely with embedded software engineers to ensure correct firmware behavior, sequencing, timing, configuration, and fault reporting across the inductive interface.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute technical leadership during design reviews, architecture discussions, and prototype evaluations.
- Prepare and present documentation, test plans, analyses, and technical briefings to internal stakeholders and external customers.
- Support field testing and technology demonstrations as needed (up to 10% travel).
- BS in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience, or MS with 3+ years’ experience, or PhD with no industry experience. Concentration in mixed signal design, power electronics, or data acquisition systems.
- Expertise designing low noise analog circuitry, including sensor interfaces, ADC based DAQ chains, grounding schemes, and noise floor optimization.
- Demonstrated experience designing high power or high efficiency electronics, including DC/DC converters, magnetics, MOSFET/IGBT based stages, and power amplifiers.
- Strong background in mixed signal PCB design, component selection, and layout review for noise sensitive and high reliability systems.
- Proficiency with microcontrollers, embedded processors, and digital communication interfaces (SPI, I2C, RS422, etc.).
- Experience designing or qualifying electronics for harsh environments, including EMI/EMC considerations and environmental tolerance.
- Strong laboratory-based debugging skills and the ability to diagnose complex system interactions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to multidisciplinary teams and customers.
- Able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
- Experience designing hardware for underwater maritime systems or other mission critical applications.
- Prior experience developing inductive power transfer or magnetic coupling systems.
- Familiarity with Altium Designer for schematic capture and layout review.
- Experience with LTSPICE, MATLAB, or other circuit modeling and data analysis tools.
- Experience mentoring junior engineering staff or leading design teams.
- Familiarity with electromechanical systems, acoustic sensors, or underwater transducer technology.
