This position reports to: Antonio Hernandez (1st shift)

Your role and responsibilities:

ABB is seeking a highly skilled Tool & Stamping Die Design Engineer specializing in motor lamination carbide progressive stamping dies and advanced metal forming technologies. This position is responsible for the engineering, design, development, and continuous improvement of high-precision progressive and deep-draw stamping dies throughout their lifecycle. The role requires advanced technical expertise, independent judgment, and leadership in developing tooling solutions that support manufacturing performance, quality, cost, and productivity objectives.

Our Team Dynamics

Our teams support each other, collaborate, and never stop learning. Everyone brings something unique, and together we push ideas forward to solve real problems. Being part of our team means your work matters - because the progress we make here creates real impact out there.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Design & Development: Lead the design of complex stamping dies (progressive, transfer, draw) using CAD tools, delivering accurate 3D models, strip layouts, and complete tooling documentation.
  • Engineering Analysis & Optimization: Perform critical calculations and apply advanced materials and manufacturing knowledge to optimize tooling for performance, quality, durability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Project & Technical Leadership: Own tooling projects end-to-end—from concept through launch—including DFM reviews, stakeholder coordination, risk management, and engineering change implementation.
  • Continuous Improvement & Support: Drive tooling performance improvements through data analysis, root cause resolution, and production support while mentoring teams and maintaining engineering standards and documentation.

Qualifications for the role:

  • High School Diploma (Associate's or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Tool Design, or related technical discipline – Preferred) and 5+ years of Tool & Die experience, with preference for progressive stamping operations and carbide lamination dies.
  • Technical Expertise: Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD, and related CAD tools, with strong knowledge of GD&T, sheet metal forming, die design, material flow, and manufacturing processes.
  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Solid understanding of CNC machining, Wire EDM, grinding, tooling fabrication methods, and integration of automation, sensors, and die protection systems.
  • Engineering & Leadership Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities with proven experience leading projects, influencing cross-functional teams, and mentoring technical personnel.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage tooling projects end-to-end, including scope, scheduling, risk assessment, change management, and coordination with internal teams, suppliers, and vendors
  • Effective communicator and self-starter who can work independently, collaborate with engineers and machinists, and utilize Microsoft Office tools.
  • Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
