Job Description:
Help Prepare the Next Generation of Electrical Professionals
Note: This is a vacancy for 1 Part-time faculty position (up to 6 hours per week).
This is an in-person teaching position based at the St. Thomas/Elgin Regional Campus. Successful candidates must be passionate about student success, be flexible with their availability to support student learning, and available to teach any time during daytime hours, Monday through Friday.

Fanshawe College is seeking an experienced and student-focused Part-Time Professor, Electrical Techniques to join the St. Thomas/Elgin Regional Campus as we expand delivery of our established Electrical Techniques program to St. Thomas beginning in Winter 2027.
This is an exciting opportunity to help increase access to skilled trades education in Southwestern Ontario while supporting the growing demand for electrical professionals across a wide range of industries and technology sectors.
Across Ontario and Canada, governments, industry leaders, employers, and educational institutions continue to identify skilled trades education and workforce development as critical priorities. Significant investments in housing, infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, automation, communications, and emerging technologies are increasing demand for highly skilled workers. By expanding Electrical Techniques to the St. Thomas/Elgin Regional Campus, Fanshawe is helping address this workforce need while creating new educational opportunities closer to home for students in the region.
About the Program
Electrical Techniques provides students with a strong foundation in electrical theory, safe work practices, wiring methods, electrical installation, troubleshooting, and industry standards. Program discussions emphasize the importance of strong electrical fundamentals while incorporating current technologies, simulation tools, and hands-on learning experiences.
The program serves as both a direct pathway into electrical apprenticeships and a gateway to further studies and careers in:
- Construction and industrial electrical trades
- Electrical Engineering Technician programs
- Electrical Engineering Technology programs
- Electrical engineering pathways
- Fire alarm and life-safety systems
- Communications and structured cabling systems
- Building automation and intelligent building technologies
- Data and network infrastructure
- Security and access control systems
- Industrial automation and controls
What You'll Do
The successful candidate will:
- Deliver engaging classroom, laboratory, and shop-based instruction within the Electrical Techniques program
- Teach foundational electrical theory and practical industry skills
- Demonstrate industry best practices related to safety, troubleshooting, installation, and code compliance
- Develop lesson plans, laboratory activities, demonstrations, and assessments aligned with course outcomes
- Evaluate student achievement and provide timely, meaningful feedback
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and student-centered learning environment
- Utilize educational technology and Fanshawe's learning systems to support student success
- Collaborate with faculty colleagues, program leadership, and campus staff to support program quality and student achievement
- Help students understand the many career pathways available within today's electrical and technology sectors
What You'll Bring
Candidates must possess one of the following:
- Certificate of Qualification (309A) Construction and Maintenance Electrician
- Certificate of Qualification (442A) Industrial Electrician
- A degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering or engineering technology discipline together with significant relevant industry experience
In addition, candidates must demonstrate:
- Recent experience working within the electrical industry
- Strong knowledge of electrical theory and practical applications.
- Knowledge of applicable safety regulations, electrical codes, and industry standards
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- A demonstrated commitment to student success and learner-centered education
- Availability to teach in person during daytime hours at the St. Thomas/Elgin Regional Campus
Preferred Qualifications and Experience/Knowledge
Preference may be given to candidates with experience or expertise in:
- Apprenticeship training and skilled trades education
- Residential, commercial, or industrial electrical installation
- Industrial automation and control systems
- PLC programming and troubleshooting
- Motor controls and electrical machinery
- Electrical testing, commissioning, and diagnostics
- Canadian Electrical Code
- Fire alarm and life-safety systems
- Communications and structured cabling systems
- Building automation and intelligent building technologies
- Security, access control, and integrated low-voltage systems
- Data communications and network infrastructure
- Electrical drawing and schematic interpretation
- Post-secondary, apprenticeship, adult education, or secondary-school teaching experience
The following credentials would also be considered strong assets:
- Master Electrician designation
- Electrical Engineering degree
- Electrical Engineering Technician diploma
- Electrical Engineering Technology diploma
- Related engineering technology credentials combined with significant industry experience
