Overview

Summary The Sewanee Intern Program is a semester-long, immersive experience designed for high-potential students from the University of the South (Sewanee) who want to understand how energy infrastructure actually gets built, financed, and operated at scale. The intern rotates across ENFRA’s core business functions on a monthly basis, gaining direct exposure to strategy, sustainability, analytics, and field operations in a way no classroom can replicate. Rather than being confined to a single desk, this intern works alongside senior leaders, attends site tours with the CEO, and builds real fluency in the energy-asa-service model that is reshaping how institutions manage their built environments. The program culminates in a capstone project—the intern identifies a real problem or inefficiency within the business, develops a recommended solution, and presents findings directly to the development team. This is a role for intellectually curious, self-directed students who want to leave a semester with genuine business experience and a clear sense of where their career could take them in energy, infrastructure, or sustainability.

Responsibilities

• Rotate monthly across assigned business functions, immersing fully in each team’s work, priorities, and workflows for the duration of the rotation. • CEO’s Office (M&A, ESG): Support strategic transaction diligence, ESG reporting initiatives, and executive-level research and analysis. • Demand Response & Smart Technologies: Learn how ENFRA manages real-time energy demand, interfaces with utility programs, and deploys smart building technologies. • Delivery / Sustainability: Embed with the sustainability and project delivery team, including a week on the ground in New Orleans to observe active project execution and operations. • Utility Analytics & Energy Analytics: Work alongside analysts to develop insights from utility data, energy consumption patterns, and performance benchmarking. • Additional teams as the program evolves, based on business need and intern interest. • Participate in site tours led by the CEO or site leaders to develop a firsthand understanding of ENFRA’s facilities, project environments, and operational context. • Contribute meaningfully to each team’s day-to-day work during each rotation—attending meetings, supporting deliverables, and asking questions that sharpen understanding. • Identify a problem, gap, or inefficiency observed during the program and develop a structured solution recommendation as the capstone project. • Present the capstone project to the development team at the conclusion of the program, articulating the problem, the analysis, and the proposed path forward. • Maintain a rotation journal or learning log to document key takeaways, questions, and observations across functions. • Perform other duties as assigned.
