Registered Nurse (RN) — Emerald Cares
Location: Fargo, ND
Employment Type: Full-time, Part-time, or PRN
Schedule: 12-hour shifts, 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m., based on staffing needs
Reports To: Nursing Supervisor or Administrator
Pay: $35/hr
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse provides person-centered nursing care to individuals with developmental disabilities and complex medical needs in Emerald Cares’ residential and community settings. The RN assesses health needs, administers prescribed treatments, coordinates care, and guides direct care staff while supporting each individual’s dignity, choices, and independence.
Essential Responsibilities
• Perform nursing assessments, monitor changes in condition, and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate provider.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
• Administer medications and treatments according to provider orders and document the individual’s response.
• Provide specialized care, as assigned and within demonstrated competency, including tracheostomy and ventilator care, enteral feeding and tube care, wound care, and seizure monitoring.
• Review medication orders, complete medication reconciliation, and coordinate prescription refills and medical supplies.
• Recognize urgent health concerns, initiate appropriate interventions, and coordinate emergency services when needed.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers, pharmacies, therapists, case managers, guardians, and families to support continuity of care.
• Coordinate appointments, hospital transitions, and follow-up care; accompany individuals on appointments or community outings when nursing support is required.
• Provide clinical guidance to LPNs, CNAs, and direct support professionals. Delegate and supervise tasks within applicable nursing requirements and agency policy.
• Educate individuals, families, and staff about health conditions, medications, treatments, and individualized care needs.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation, including assessments, medication and treatment records, nursing notes, incident reports, and shift handoffs.
• Follow infection prevention practices and maintain a safe care environment.
• Support personal care, mobility, transfers, and daily activities when needed.
• Participate in staff training, care conferences, quality improvement activities, and required meetings.
• Protect confidentiality and uphold individual rights, informed choices, and respectful care.
• Report suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, medication errors, and other safety concerns according to agency procedures and applicable requirements.
Required Qualifications
• Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program.
• Current RN license authorizing practice in the state where services are provided.
• Current BLS/CPR certification.
• Strong assessment, communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize care, and respond appropriately to changes in condition.
• Ability to complete required background screening, orientation, and competency validation.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in home care, residential services, long-term care, or care of individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Experience with ventilators, tracheostomies, feeding tubes, seizure disorders, and other complex medical conditions.
• Experience supervising or training nursing and direct care staff.
• Familiarity with electronic documentation systems, including Therap.
Physical and Work Requirements
• Ability to perform essential nursing and direct care duties, with reasonable accommodation as appropriate.
• Ability to assist with repositioning and transfers using prescribed equipment and staff assistance.
• Ability to work scheduled shifts, including weekends and holidays as assigned.
• Potential exposure to infectious materials and other healthcare-related hazards; required protective equipment and safety procedures must be followed.
