Job Description:
About the job
Deutsche Bank Technology in Berlin
DB Technology is a global team of tech specialists, spread across multiple trading hubs and tech centres. We have a strong focus on promoting technical excellence – our engineers work at the forefront of financial services innovation using cutting-edge technologies.
Our Berlin location is our most recent addition to our global network of tech centres and growing strongly. We are committed to building a diverse workforce and to creating excellent opportunities for talented engineers and technologists. Our tech teams and business units use agile ways of working to create #GlobalHausbank solutions from our home market.
Client Access
Client Access develops and operates platforms connecting the Bank with Central Banks, clearing houses, financial institutions, corporate clients, government agencies and regulators. The portfolio includes Channel and Market Integration (CMI), our strategic cloud-based platform for payment orchestration and external connectivity, alongside established vendor products and services supporting SWIFT, EBICS and other financial-messaging channels.
The Lead Site Reliability Engineer (f/m/x) will connect Engineering, QA, SL2/SL3 Production Support and Operations, ensuring that production supportability is designed into services and features before go-live rather than addressed after release. The initial focus will be CMI, with opportunities to improve reliability and observability across vendor products and the wider portfolio.
This is a hands-on individual-contributor role combining strong software-engineering capability with deep production experience. The lead engineer (f/m/x) will work across code, telemetry, testing and operating procedures to ensure that high-volume payment and messaging services can be effectively monitored, diagnosed and safely recovered when failures occur.
Your key responsibilities
- Partner with Engineering, QA, Production Support and Operations from design through go-live.
- Define monitoring, dashboards and actionable alerting using Splunk, Kibana and Geneos.
- Design supportability for high-volume, event-driven services, including retry, replay, idempotency, reconciliation, message correlation, queue/backlog monitoring and capacity controls.
- Translate expected failure modes into alerts, runbooks, recovery procedures, support-acceptance criteria and post-release production checks.
- Improve testing through unit, component, contract, integration, performance and targeted end-to-end tests, including rollback and recovery scenarios.
- Lead technical incident and problem analysis and drive sustainable corrective actions with application and support teams.
- Contribute hands-on to implementation, architecture, design and code reviews across globally distributed teams.
Your skills and experiences
- Strong hands-on experience in Java or Kotlin development for complex distributed systems.
- Proven expertise supporting high-volume payment, trading, or financial messaging platforms in production environments.
- Deep knowledge of observability and monitoring, including Splunk, Kibana, Geneos, telemetry design, dashboards, and alerting.
- Strong understanding of event-driven architectures using Kafka and MQ, including retries, replay, idempotency, and reconciliation.
- Experience driving incident management, root-cause analysis, operational readiness, recovery automation, and runbook development.
- Solid software engineering background covering testing, CI/CD, Spring Boot, REST APIs, Oracle, Kubernetes, Docker, and effective collaboration across Engineering, Production Support, and Operations teams.
- Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, optimise workflows to solve business problems, while applying critical judgment to ensure responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs.
