Senior Water Engineer/Modeler

Role description:

Arcadis is looking for a Senior Water Engineer/Modeler to join our Mid-Atlantic Regional Resilience Water Team! This role can be based in either Hanover, Maryland, Fairfax, Virginia, or Washington D.C.

The Senior Water Engineer/Modeler will utilize their professional experience and technical knowledge of hydraulics, water distribution master planning, and computer modeling, combined with data analytics as part of our local project teams developing innovative solutions throughout the region. This is an excellent opportunity with high potential for growth, including leading and executing tasks and projects, mentoring junior staff, and developing project pursuits and opportunities.

Role accountabilities:

This role will apply leadership skills and expertise in all aspects of developing water distribution system models, wastewater collection system models, stormwater models, and system master plans to guide technical project teams. Additionally, this role will perform engineering activities for water/wastewater system hydraulics, including pumping evaluations, flow test studies, water quality investigations, system planning, hydraulic and water quality model development, master plans, and feasibility studies.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing and reviewing technical reports, including report organization, authoring, and coordination.
• Providing technical expertise and guidance on existing and new design and modeling projects.
• Leading client presentations, communicating project progress, and collaborating with stakeholders across a variety of roles.
• Supporting business development efforts by helping define scopes of work, establish project objectives, and contribute to pursuits.
• Coordinating project activities to ensure the timely completion and delivery of project work.
• Assisting with water and wastewater distribution, conveyance system, and asset management data analytics.

Additional responsibilities include exercising independent engineering judgment in evaluating and selecting appropriate technical solutions, ensuring compliance with Arcadis quality, safety, and project delivery standards, and maintaining professional and technical knowledge through participation in industry associations, workshops, presentations, and professional publications.

Some travel will be required for project site visits, client meetings, safety audits, planning activities, and construction oversight, depending on project and staffing needs.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications

• 10 years of experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field of study.
• EIT or PE License, or ability to obtain PE license in 1 year of hire.

Key Attributes

• Deep understanding of water and wastewater hydraulic modeling and master planning project development, project execution, and requirements.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; skills to include – public speaking, ability to communicate effectively as part of a team and with clients and for the preparation/development of technical documents.
• Excellent technical writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications

A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Experience serving as a Planning or Technical Lead with responsibilities for project delivery, budgeting, schedule monitoring, client management, and project controls is highly desirable. Candidates should have hydraulic modeling and engineering experience supporting evaluations, investigations, planning studies, feasibility studies, and modeling of water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Experience working with GIS applications is preferred.

Additional qualifications include experience with computer programming tools such as Power BI, Python, and/or Ruby, as well as active participation in regional and/or national professional associations. Experience using hydraulic modeling software, including InfoWorks ICM, PCSWMM, WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, InfoWater Pro, and EPANET, is also preferred.

We offer nine paid holidays and 20 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $121,651 - $182,577/year. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
