The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s in-house creative team is looking for an interaction designer focused on strategic branding and communications campaign design. This role collaborates with other designers, internal business clients and stakeholders to tell our story through visual identities, campaigns, publication design, data visualization, and other design assets for all touchpoints including digital, print, video and 3-D applications. In addition to branding, this role provides opportunities to delve into multi-disciplinary design including user experience, video, animation and photography. Our audiences range from employees to the public, to teachers, to children – providing a wide range of interesting project work. The ideal candidate has a portfolio that illustrates technical expertise of typographical and visual form, paired with strategic and conceptual thinking; can work seamlessly with content specialists and cross-functional teams; and demonstrates strong time management and organizational skills.

Key Activities 

• Creates visual identities including logo lockups, mood boards, color palettes, iconographies, and illustration styles. Also, manages brand standard documents and asset libraries. 

• Creates original design work for various business needs, such as event and branded campaigns, publication layout and web graphics. Creative design applications may include, but are not limited to graphic design, web design, user interface/user experience (UI/UX) design, presentation design, multimedia design, and exhibit design. 

• Assists video studio team with video shooting, lighting, editing, photography, photo editing/retouching, and storyboarding. 

• Creates illustrations, sketches, storyboards, wireframes, and prototypes to explain user experience objectives across multiple devices, including mobile, tablets, and computers. 

• Presents design solutions to clients; outlines potential resources, such as photography, writing, and editing; provides estimates of project costs and production timelines; and creates a design brief or rationale for customers when necessary. Sets deadlines, provides estimates, and proactively communicates progress and project milestones. 

• Updates design and content throughout the proofing, editing, and approval process and as defined objectives of projects are updated or revised. 

• Participates in and leads design and concept brainstorming meetings. 

• Negotiates project costs with external vendors within budget constraints and clients’ directives and offers alternative solutions for production when necessary.  

Qualifications 

• Typically requires 0-6 years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree specializing in graphic/interactive design, visual communication, or closely related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of directly related education and/or experience.
• Software requirements: Mastery level of Adobe Creative Cloud is required. Moderate proficiency level of Microsoft Office required. Some Figma experience is beneficial.  
• Digital portfolio at time of application required to be considered

• Onsite, full time (with 5 days per month remote work flexibility)

Pay Range: 

• $54,500 - $70,500/Associate level
• $64,700 - $83,700/Experienced level
• $77,400 - $100,000/Senior level
• Final offers are determined by factors including the candidate’s qualifications, internal alignment considerations, district assignment, and geographic location.
