ABOUT US

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities.  We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better.  It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.

Why this role matters

The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities, committed to transforming lives through practical support, connection, and hope. Across the Norwest Region, our Hope Markets provide vital food relief and community support to individuals and families experiencing hardship.

Through food rescue partnerships, community engagement initiatives, and volunteer-driven programs, our Hope Markets create pathways for connection, dignity, and support while reducing food insecurity across the communities we serve.

About the role

As the Food Relief Operations Manager, this is your opportunity to lead the operational delivery of The Salvation Army's Hope Markets across the Norwest Region. You will oversee the regional food supply chain, warehouse operations, logistics network, volunteer workforce, and community food programs to ensure the safe, efficient, and equitable distribution of food assistance.

Reporting to the Corps Officer, this is a full-time, maximum term role for 12 months based in Norwest NSW. This role is classified under the SCHADS Award Level 4.

How you will make an impact

  • Lead and coordinate warehouse operations, inventory management, centralised hamper production, and regional distribution logistics.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with supermarkets, Foodbank, donors, and community organisations to ensure sustainable food supply outcomes.
  • Recruit, lead, train, and support a volunteer workforce across Hope Market locations throughout the Norwest Region.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, transport, warehouse operations, vehicle maintenance, and Work Health & Safety requirements.
  • Coordinate Christmas Cheer operations and contribute to the development of new community initiatives and food assistance programs.
  • Monitor data reporting, membership systems, fleet operations, and community engagement activities to support effective service delivery.

What you will bring

  • Relevant qualifications in Community Services, Social Work, Logistics, Operations Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing operations, logistics, community programs, warehouse environments, or food relief services.
  • Experience building relationships with community stakeholders, donors, volunteers, and external partners.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop volunteer teams within a community or not-for-profit environment.
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A commitment to providing excellent customer service and supporting vulnerable individuals and families within the community.

What we offer

The Salvos offer eligible employees a well-balanced package of meaningful benefits including:

  • Salary packaging up to $15,900 tax free + $2,650 meal entertainment benefit.
  • Generous Paid Parental Leave for primary (12 weeks) and secondary carers.
  • Purchased Leave Scheme (up to 8 weeks annually).
  • 5 days paid leave each year to experience working in other TSA programs or activities.
  • Access to EAP and health & wellbeing initiatives including Fitness Passport.
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Rewarding and purpose-driven work that creates positive outcomes for individuals, families, and communities.
