Our Purpose
We are seeking a Senior Principal Product Engineer - Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to provide senior technical leadership in the development and scaling of advanced manufacturing solutions for next-generation medical-device products. The role combines expertise in manufacturing engineering, product industrialisation, supply chain, procurement, logistics, pilot-line creation and manufacturability to enable robust product introduction from concept through pilot build and into sustained production.
The successful candidate will partner closely with R&D, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Procurement and external suppliers to embed manufacturability in product design, establish capable pilot lines, qualify manufacturing processes and build a resilient end-to-end supply chain.
The role will be based at the Mervue Campus in Galway, Ireland.

A Day in The Life Of:
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Lead the design, development and implementation of advanced manufacturing processes for new and existing products.
- Drive pilot-line creation, including line layout, equipment selection, process-flow definition and readiness for transfer to production.
- Translate product-design intent into scalable, cost-effective and compliant manufacturing solutions, partnering early with design-engineering teams to embed manufacturability throughout product development.
- Evaluate product designs for process capability, assembly efficiency, material availability, testability and scalability.
- Provide technical leadership in supply-chain planning for prototype, pilot and production materials, collaborating with procurement and planning teams on sourcing strategy, purchasing execution and material availability.
- Support supplier selection, qualification and development for critical components and manufacturing inputs, while ensuring logistics readiness for material flow, shipment planning, inventory positioning and transport needs.
- Develop and validate manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures and test methods, including process characterisation, capability studies and risk mitigation.
- Lead cross-functional teams through new-product introduction, process transfer and manufacturing scale-up.
- Drive root-cause analysis and corrective action for process, material, supplier and logistics-related issues.
- Identify and lead continuous-improvement initiatives to improve quality, cost, lead time, throughput and supply continuity.
Key Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain or a related technical field.
- Bachelor's degree with 10 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 8 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in advanced manufacturing, manufacturing engineering or industrialisation within a regulated or complex manufacturing environment, including pilot-line creation, process development and scale-up to production.
- Strong background in manufacturability, design for manufacture and cross-functional product industrialisation.
- Experience collaborating with supply chain, purchasing, planning and logistics functions, with proven ability to manage technical risk, supplier interfaces and production-readiness activities.
- Strong working knowledge of process validation, quality systems and manufacturing documentation.
- Excellent communication, technical leadership, problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills.
- Experience in medical devices, healthcare, electronics or another highly regulated industry is desirable.
- Experience with automation or semi-automation, fixtures, tooling, test development, ERP/MRP systems, supplier qualification, international logistics or material-flow optimisation is advantageous.
- Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, APQP, PFMEA, DOE and capability analysis, with experience leading complex new-product introduction or process-transfer programmes, is desirable.

The final salary within this range will be determined based on objective, job-related criteria, including relevant experience, skills and qualifications, in accordance with our compensation framework.
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
