What you do
Role Overview
- Core Purpose: Manages, secures, and optimizes our on-premises enterprise Teradata data warehouse platform to ensure high-performance data analytics.
- Collaboration: Partners with infrastructure teams, data engineers, and BI analysts to maintain hardware efficiency and database uptime.
Key Responsibilities
- Hardware & Space Management: Allocates Perm, Spool, and Temp spaces across physical nodes; monitors and resolves data skewing across AMPs.
- Performance Tuning: Uses Teradata Viewpoint and Visual Explain to optimize complex SQL queries and automates database statistics collection.
- Workload Management: Configures TASM (Teradata Active System Management) rules to balance local server resources and prioritize critical business workloads.
- Data Utilities: Troubleshoots infrastructure-level load scripts utilizing BTEQ, FastLoad, MultiLoad, and FastExport.
- Backup & On-Premises Recovery: Implements disaster recovery and backup strategies via Data Stream Architecture (DSA) integrated with on-premises storage systems (e.g., NetBackup).
- Security & Auditing: Manages user access, roles, and profiles, and monitors resource consumption using DBQL and ResUsage.
Who you are
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 10+ years of dedicated experience managing on-premises Teradata production environments.
- Architecture Knowledge: Deep understanding of physical Teradata MPP architecture (Nodes, AMPs, Parsing Engines, BYNET).
- Infrastructure & OS: Strong hands-on experience with physical storage, Linux/Unix server administration, and shell scripting.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
Preferred Skills
- Teradata Vantage Certified Administrator credential.
- Experience handling hardware upgrades, patches, or storage area network (SAN) integrations.
- Experience in Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres and MongoDB are added advantage
- Self-motivated and driven
- Good interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good communication skills and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Banking experience is an added advantage
