Broadcast Engineer (Operations Focussed)
Your Role: Broadcast Engineer (Operations Focussed)
As a Broadcast Engineer based at Global’s Leicester Square headquarters, you’ll help support the technology behind some of the UK’s biggest radio, podcast, video and digital content.
Working as part of the London Broadcast Engineering team, you’ll support a diverse broadcast and production environment spanning live radio, podcasts, video, streaming, Outside Broadcasts and live events.
This is a hands-on role for someone with solid broadcast experience who is comfortable fault-finding, taking ownership of incidents and supporting live, business-critical systems.
As a Broadcast Engineer (Projects Focused) at Global, you will:
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and support live radio, podcast, audio and video production facilities.
- Diagnose and resolve technical faults quickly and methodically.
- Support studio audio, mixing, routing and Audio-over-IP systems.
- Support radio playout and automation systems including RCS Zetta and GSelector.
- Support cameras, video routing, switching, monitoring, ingest, streaming and associated production systems.
- Assist with installation, commissioning and upgrades of studios and technical systems.
- Provide technical support to presenters, producers, journalists, creators and production teams.
- Support Outside Broadcasts, live events and temporary production facilities.
- Maintain technical documentation and follow incident and change management processes.
- Participate in the engineering on-call rota for urgent technical issues outside normal working hours.

What Success Looks Like
In the first few months, you'll have:
- Built a strong working knowledge of the Leicester Square broadcast and production systems.
- Developed good relationships with Engineering, Programming, News, Podcasts, Video and Technology teams.
- Become confident diagnosing common studio, playout, audio, video and network-related faults.
- Become familiar with Global’s incident management, documentation and on-call processes.
What You'll need
The ideal candidate will be proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following:
- Solid practical experience in a live broadcast environment.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Good knowledge of audio signal flow and broadcast studio systems.
- Good knowledge of RCS Zetta and GSelector, or similar radio automation platforms.
- Knowledge of video broadcast and streaming systems including cameras, routing and switching.
- Experience with Video Ingest, storage and associated workflow
- A good understanding of IP networking, including multicast.
- Knowledge of Audio-over-IP technologies such as Livewire, AES67 and Dante.
- Good general IT knowledge and an understanding of software and IP-based broadcast systems.
- The ability to remain calm and effective when supporting live output.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a wider team.
