Location: Menasha, WI (Appleton / Fox Valley Area)
Employment Type: Direct Hire | Full-Time
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite / 2 Days Remote
Travel: Approximately 5–10%

We're seeking a Lead Modeling & Simulation Engineer to drive the development of advanced simulation technologies supporting next-generation power distribution, renewable energy, and energy storage systems.

In this highly technical leadership role, you'll combine hands-on engineering expertise with the opportunity to lead a team of simulation engineers, influence product architecture, and help shape the future of distributed energy technologies.

What You'll Be Doing
Advanced Modeling & Simulation
- Lead the development of sophisticated, physics-based simulation environments for electrical, thermal, and mechanical systems.
- Develop and optimize models supporting distributed energy resources, renewable power generation, energy storage, and electrical power distribution.
- Create scalable, modular component models with varying levels of simulation fidelity.
- Integrate electrical, mechanical, thermal, and control system models to evaluate overall system performance.
Product Development & Innovation
- Perform system architecture trade studies, performance evaluations, and optimization to guide product design decisions.
- Evaluate technical performance, efficiency, cost, weight, and system requirements to identify optimal engineering solutions.
- Develop proof-of-concept control algorithms and provide technical recommendations to embedded software and controls engineering teams.
- Apply Design of Experiments (DOE), optimization techniques, and data-driven analytical methods to improve system performance.
- Support technoeconomic analysis by integrating component costs, operating characteristics, and system-level performance into simulation models.
Simulation, Testing & Validation
- Develop and utilize Model-in-the-Loop (MIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation environments.
- Integrate plant and control models to support testing, verification, and validation of controls software.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to validate models against actual system performance.
- Establish modeling and simulation methodologies that improve development efficiency, accuracy, and product reliability.
Technical Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and guide a team of simulation engineers.
- Serve as a technical subject matter expert across product engineering, systems engineering, and R&D.
- Collaborate with engineering leadership and product strategy teams to define simulation requirements and development priorities.
- Drive continuous improvement in modeling tools, methodologies, and engineering best practices.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- 8+ years of professional experience in systems modeling, simulation, or related engineering disciplines.
- Strong proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink or comparable time-domain simulation platforms.
- Experience with multi-physics modeling tools such as Simscape, Siemens Simcenter Amesim, GT-SUITE, or equivalent software.
- Hands-on experience developing or integrating MIL, SIL, and HIL simulation environments.
- Experience with HIL testing platforms such as dSPACE, Speedgoat, National Instruments, or OPAL-RT.
- Strong understanding of electrical power systems, power conversion, renewable energy, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
- Knowledge of power distribution equipment and technologies, including UPS systems, converters, switchboards, and power electronics.
- Familiarity with thermal management systems, including battery cooling, HVAC systems, and liquid cooling technologies.
- Proven ability to translate real-world engineering challenges into accurate, complex simulation models.
- Experience developing modular and scalable simulation models for complex systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Additional Experience That Will Set You Apart
- Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience with microgrids, distributed energy resources (DER), energy storage systems, or advanced power conversion technologies.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements for power generation, microgrids, and energy storage.
- Programming experience with Python, C++, or similar languages.
- Experience with model-based controls development and optimization algorithms.
- Familiarity with machine learning, data-driven modeling, or predictive analytics.
- Experience integrating technoeconomic analysis with system-level modeling and simulation.
- Background developing MIL, SIL, or HIL testing frameworks for controls software validation.
- Experience with Git or other version-control tools used in collaborative engineering development.
- Previous experience providing technical leadership or mentoring simulation engineers.
