FUTURE SALARY INCREASES
June 2027 – 4.00% increase to base pay (3.0% Across-the- Board +1.00% Market Adjustment)
The Department of General Services (DGS) is responsible for overall management of all County vehicles, including acquisition, electrification, disposal, inventory, regulatory compliance, maintenance and fueling.
The Fleet Services Division owns and operates one of the largest government vehicle fleets in the State of California consisting of over 4,500 vehicles and equipment. Fleet Services consists of Acquisitions, Electrification, Maintenance, and Contracts & Compliance. There are eight maintenance locations, seven mobile maintenance units, 30 fuel sites and 125 contracts in place for parts, service, and repairs.
Fleet Standard Technicians are responsible for preparing routine specifications for light vehicles such as automobiles, light trucks and vans, and for researching and coordinating their purchase, maintenance, and salvage. This position performs tasks such as writing specifications for coordinating purchase and delivery of, licensing and registration, and outfitting of all classes of vehicles and mobile equipment used by County of San Diego departments.
The ideal Fleet Standards Technician is someone who enjoys providing great customer service, working closely with vendors to coordinate vehicle outfitting, and reviewing new vehicles to ensure they meet order specifications. Candidates with a maintenance background are encouraged to apply, as their knowledge of vehicle and equipment systems is highly valued. Strong organizational skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications will help the selected candidate thrive in this role.

Interview and Hiring Dates
The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below:
- Interviews, Job Offers and Background Process begin in November 2026. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
- Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
- Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience preparing technical specifications for light duty vehicles and equipment, at least one (1) year of which must have included processing vehicle registrations with the Department of Motor Vehicles, maintaining computerized vehicle inventory files, and coordinating vehicle modifications with in-house shops, vendors, and user departments/divisions.
