ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Legal Analyst performs responsible, journey-level legal and administrative work supporting the Office of Legal Affairs (OLA). Under general supervision, this position conducts legal research and analysis, prepares legal correspondence and documents, and assists Court Counsel attorneys with a broad portfolio of complex, high-volume, and time-sensitive matters. A central function of this role is supporting the Court’s ADA compliance program: the Legal Analyst reviews and processes requests for disability accommodation under California Rules of Court, rule 1.100. In addition, the Legal Analyst assists in the oversight of Local Rules of Court, General Orders, Standing Orders, Resource Guides, and Policies and Procedures, supporting drafting, review, routing, and tracking through the approval process. The position also responds to subpoenas and other legal inquiries while helping protect the Court from legal liability. This position requires strong knowledge of legal procedures and terminology, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to exercise sound independent judgment. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage confidential and competing priorities while working effectively with attorneys, judicial officers, court staff, justice partners, and members of the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and analysis, identify relevant facts and legal issues, and prepare recommendations, conclusions, correspondence, and other legal documents for attorney review.
- Review and coordinate responses to subpoenas, complaints, and other legal inquiries while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules, and Court policies.
- Assist with litigation and court filings, including preparing documents, tables of authorities, filing materials, service of process, and monitoring active matters involving the Court or judicial officers.
- Represent the Court in small claims matters and assist Court Counsel with activities designed to protect the Court from legal liability and enforce its rights.
- Review and process requests for disability accommodation under California Rules of Court, rule 1.100, including communicating with the public regarding accommodation procedures, advising court staff on confidentiality requirements, and maintaining the Court’s ADA accommodation tracking system.
- Assist in the oversight and processing of Local Rules of Court, General Orders, Standing Orders, Resource Guides, and Policies and Procedures, including drafting, routing, tracking, and coordinating the approval workflow.
- Maintain organized and confidential legal files and resources, monitor deadlines and pending matters, and develop or update digital legal resources to support the Office of Legal Affairs.

This is an at-will managerial position. The Trial Court Employment Protection and Governance Act (SB 2140) authorizes the Court to exclude managerial employees from the employment protection provisions of the Act subject to meet and confer.
THIS IS A HYBRID TELEWORK ELIGIBLE OPPORTUNITY
This position may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule of up to two or three days per week following the completion of an initial on-site training period. Hybrid telework eligibility is subject to ongoing evaluation based on the quality of work produced and is contingent upon the operational needs of the Court. This position is not eligible for full-time telework.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet one of the following options at the final filing date of this bulletin:
OPTION I: Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience supporting multiple attorneys or judicial officers, including interacting with the public or clients, writing and editing legal documents and correspondence, and conducting legal research.
OPTION II: Juris Doctorate* from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.

Note: Credit for experience is based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a pro rate basis (e.g. working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience). Overtime does not count toward additional credit.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience conducting legal research and analysis using online legal research platforms and applying statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and case law to complex issues.
- Strong legal writing skills, with the ability to prepare clear, concise, accurate, and persuasive correspondence and legal documents with minimal review or editing.
- Knowledge of civil litigation practices, court operations, judicial administrative records, subpoenas, court filings, and applicable court rules and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple confidential and time-sensitive assignments, prioritize competing deadlines, and exercise independent judgment and initiative.
- Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise tact, discretion, and professionalism when working with attorneys, judicial officers, court staff, justice partners, and the public.
