Description
Our client is seeking an experienced Roofing Supervisor to oversee roofing works across two commercial or industrial project sites in Gqeberha (PE).
The successful candidate will supervise roofing teams, coordinate daily activities, monitor workmanship and ensure that all work is completed safely and according to the approved programme, drawings and specifications.
This is a limited-duration appointment that will remain in place for the period required to complete the roofing works. The Roofing Supervisor may be required to move between the two project sites according to the work programme and operational requirements.
The appointment will end when the required roofing works have been completed, unless it is extended or amended in writing.
Key Responsibilities
Site Supervision
- Supervise and coordinate all roofing labour and activities on site.
- Direct and supervise labour-only roofing personnel.
- Allocate daily tasks and monitor progress against the project programme.
- Ensure that the required manpower is available and used effectively.
- Maintain discipline and proper housekeeping within all work areas.
- Coordinate roofing activities with site management and other contractors.
- Assist with planning and sequencing the roofing works across the project sites.
Roofing Works
- Supervise the installation, repair and replacement of roofing systems.
- Ensure that roofing materials are installed according to approved specifications, drawings and manufacturer requirements.
- Monitor workmanship and identify defective or unacceptable work.
- Oversee the installation of roof sheets, flashings, closures, waterproofing, insulation, gutters, downpipes and related roof components, where applicable.
- Ensure that roof penetrations and interfaces with existing structures are properly completed and weatherproofed.
- Inspect completed work and report any outstanding defects.
- Ensure corrective work is completed before the team moves to the next section.
Health and Safety
- Ensure that all roofing personnel comply with project health and safety requirements.
- Ensure that employees working at height use the required fall-protection systems and personal protective equipment.
- Monitor the correct use of ladders, scaffolding, lifelines, access equipment and other safety equipment.
- Identify and immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses and non-compliance.
- Stop unsafe work when necessary and notify the responsible site-management representative.
- Ensure that work areas remain safe for employees, contractors and other people in the vicinity.
Quality Control
- Monitor the quality of all roofing installations.
- Ensure that work is completed according to the approved scope, drawings, specifications and instructions.
- Inspect materials before installation and report damaged or unsuitable materials.
- Inspect completed sections before work proceeds to the next area.
- Maintain a record of defects and monitor the completion of corrective work.
Progress Monitoring and Reporting
- Provide daily progress updates to site management.
- Report delays, material shortages, access restrictions and other issues that could affect completion.
- Maintain daily records of labour attendance and work completed.
- Provide progress photographs and supporting information when requested.
- Immediately escalate issues that could affect the programme, quality, safety or cost of the work.
Minimum Requirements
- Proven experience supervising commercial or industrial roofing works.
- Experience managing labour-only roofing teams.
- Competence in working at height and knowledge of applicable fall-protection requirements.
- Ability to interpret roofing drawings, specifications and installation details.
- Sound technical knowledge of roofing installation methods and materials.
- Ability to identify poor workmanship and construction defects.
- Understanding of site health and safety requirements.
- Ability to manage and coordinate multiple roofing activities.
- Willingness and ability to work across two project sites in Gqeberha.
