Position Overview
We are seeking a Data Architect to support a U.S. Navy program in Portsmouth, VA. This position will provide enterprise data architecture, database design, and Navy Shipyard IT systems support for the Naval Shipyard Support Office (NSSO).
The Data Architect will design and maintain data architectures for ship maintenance metrics and analytics, support data integration across multiple Naval Shipyard IT systems, and enable comprehensive analytics and reporting capabilities for leadership decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and build databases for data storage or processing, ensuring optimal performance and scalability for shipyard operations.
• Develop strategies for warehouse implementation, data acquisition and access, and data archiving and recovery.
• Build data models and define the structure, attributes, and nomenclature of data elements across enterprise systems.
• Evaluate new data sources for adherence to quality standards and ease of integration.
• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise data architectures supporting Naval Shipyard ship maintenance operations, metrics, and analytics.
• Integrate data from multiple shipyard IT systems, including AIM, AIMXp, MAT, MRQT, PMC, SPF, SUPDESK, WARR, and PWFA, to enable comprehensive analytics and reporting.
• Ensure data integrity, quality, and security across supported systems in compliance with federal and DoD requirements.
• Support development and maintenance of corporate metrics dashboards and data visualizations for the ship maintenance community.
• Conduct continual program and software life-cycle planning, data mining, and alternatives assessments.
• Develop prediction and decision support analytics in support of NAVSEA metrics and operational decision-making.
• Collaborate with ERP Business Analysts and Software Engineers to implement data-driven solutions that enhance shipyard efficiency.
• Support the development of custom data architectures, queries, and data analytics products tailored to stakeholder requirements.
• Develop and maintain system interface relationship diagrams for Naval Shipyard IT infrastructures.
• Support cross-functional teams with data architecture requirements for software portfolio management initiatives.
• Participate in Technical User Groups (TUGs) and Metric Community of Practice (MCoP) meetings to ensure alignment with enterprise standards and best practices.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.
• 4–7 years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise data management.
• Demonstrated experience with relational databases, SQL, and data modeling.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise data architecture and database design, with the ability to learn and work within Navy Shipyard IT systems.
• Active Secret security clearance.
• U.S. citizenship.
• Ability to meet applicable Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) training and certification requirements.
• Some travel may be required.
Highly Desired Qualifications
• Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in enterprise data architecture.
• 5+ years of experience with data integration and data warehousing technologies.
• Experience supporting DoD or Navy programs.
• Experience with business intelligence tools and dashboard development, including Qlik, Power BI, or Power Apps.
• Familiarity with Naval Shipyard IT systems and ship maintenance data.
