About our Department:
The goal of the Public Transit Department is to provide adequate and efficient community transportation services for the general public. The City of Huntsville’s 19 Access vehicles are radio dispatched and ADA accessible. Access is a specialized, door-to-door, demand-response paratransit service.
Transit Maintenance Technician II Position Overview:
This is administrative and specialized work in the inspection, maintenance and repair of vehicles used in the Public Transit Department. Work involves responsibility for developing and implementing routine vehicle maintenance, repair and inspection of public transit vehicles, and that they receive regular preventative maintenance as prescribed by the manufacture, and that repairs are scheduled and completed in a timely manner. Work also involves inspecting licensed taxicabs and limousines operating in the city to ensure compliance with city ordinances regulating such vehicles.
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency and considerable experience in vehicle maintenance and repair or fleet management; or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the above listed knowledge, skills and abilities.
Commercial Driver's License Class B, with passenger and air brake endorsements. Will be able to obtain a license within six months of employment.
