Under immediate supervision, assists custodial and recreation services staff in setting up rooms and facilities for various recreation activities and City events; assists patrons and facility users, performs general maintenance of recreation buildings and equipment; and performs related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives functional and technical direction from custodians and immediate supervision or mentoring from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is an entry-level classification that performs general maintenance, customer service, and custodial duties to ensure facility users are provided the highest level of safety and service and assists the recreation staff in implementing recreation activities, and events. Work is often performed in an assigned area and may involve working around other City staff and/or the public, depending upon assignment. This class is distinguished from the Custodian in that the latter assists with coordinating and implementing the full range of custodial duties for City buildings and facilities, and may provide functional and technical direction to the Facilities Attendant classes.

- Monitors facility use; opens, closes, and secures buildings and parks for activities, programs, and rental events; and prepares the facility and amenities for patron use.
- Participates in ensuring compliance with relevant permitting and licensing laws and guidelines; interprets and applies policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations; assists enforcement of and ensures adherence to rules and regulations.
- Ensures the safety of the public and staff at all times by inspecting, patrolling, monitoring, and instructing on the safe use of program facilities, equipment, and supplies; maintains a safe, clean, and tidy environment; reports unsafe conditions or illegal activities.
- Performs routine maintenance of buildings and equipment.
- Issues and collects recreation equipment and supplies.
- Ensures that programs, activities, and facilities are in compliance with applicable City regulations, laws, and ordinances.
- Responsible for performing custodial maintenance activities at City facilities including the pool and City offices.
- Interacts with children and parents; addresses issues, concerns, and questions that parents may have regarding the assigned programs and rentals.
- Maintains a variety of logs, records, and files, and prepares reports related to assigned activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Completion of formal or informal education at a level that provides the ability to read and write at an eighth (8th) grade level. No experience is required; however, knowledge of basic customer service and cleaning methods is required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Possession of a valid California Drivers License by time of appointment.

Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate the above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect work sites. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 50 pounds.

All City of Seaside employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
