The Cancer Treatment Center Director is a dynamic, motivating professional leader with the expertise, knowledge, and communicative skills essential to facilitate the vision of the Cancer Treatment Center in its sacred task of helping patients to improve their health and quality of life.

Required Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years minimum experience, in a radiation oncology manager/supervisory role
  • Registered through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) as a Certified Radiation Therapist
  • Current New Mexico State license in Radiation Therapy
  • Fluent in English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

Duties and Responsibilities:

Department:

  • Establishes and maintains departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, and safety pertinent to comprehensive cancer care
  • Ensures adherence to policies and procedures and provides interpretation
  • Monitors workflow for efficiency and timeliness and makes adjustments as needed
  • Supervises nursing, radiation therapist, dosimetrist, secretarial staff, as well as medical physicist/hospital RSO
  • Counsels and/or disciplines employees
  • Investigates and resolves incidents and complaints or suggestions from patients, visitors, physicians, and staff
  • Documents and investigates all incidents/accidents that occur and reports same to the appropriate department
  • Staff development

Operations:

  • Revenue (charge capture, reimbursement, indigent care)
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility (i.e., labor, non-labor expenses, capital)
  • Patient care (staffing, physician support, patient relations/advocacy, interdisciplinary systems, scope of services, information systems, case management, support groups)
  • Assist with various program requirements (ACoS, Cancer Committee, Tumor Registry, accreditation, licensure, state requirements) pertinent to comprehensive cancer care (Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Hematology)
  • Oversees special programs and services (Outreach; prevention; network channels with referring physicians, providers, payers; indigent care; community services; and American Cancer Society)
  • Maintains effective working relationships with Oncologist to facilitate program growth, strategic planning, and implementation

Education:

  • Maintains CEU’s as required by the ARRT and the State of New Mexico
  • Attends patient care, quality assurance and departmental staff meetings

Other:

  • Each employee is responsible for implementing SJRMC’s Service Standards into their daily work: Safety, Courtesy, Effectiveness, and Stewardship
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions:

Physical Activities:

  • All Cancer Center jobs may require lifting / pushing / pulling varying weights may exceed two hundred (200) pounds
  • Activities may include intermittent or prolonged: standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching with arms, and using the hands to handle or feel
  • Repetitive motions may also be required, such as: wrist / hand movements, grasping, and finger dexterity (as in typing, writing, etc.)

Work Environment:

  • The job requires exposure to the following conditions: risk of radiation, working near moving or mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock
  • The noise level may vary from very quiet to very loud

Sensory Requirements:

Hearing:

  • Must be able to hear, alarms on equipment, fire alarms, overhead announcements
  • Patients/families verbal discussions
  • Instructions/feedback from other healthcare providers

Vision:

  • Must be able to see and focus on close-up and distant objects
  • Distinguish colors
  • Have intact: peripheral vision and depth perception
  • Depth perception: judge distance and spatial relationships
