We are pursuing qualified candidates to fill the Assistant Public Health Registrar position within the Department of Public Health. This position assists in the registration of vital records, the processing and controlling of communicable disease reports, and the preparation of statistical data and medical reports, or performs specialized duties related to these functions.

What will I do as an Assistant Public Health Registrar?- Reviews birth and death certificates and reports of communicable disease for compliance with laws and regulations and for completeness and accuracy of medical and other data.
- Contacts physicians, hospitals, and funeral directors to resolve discrepancies or to secure additional information needed on birth and death certificates and reports of communicable disease; corrects certificates and reports where indicated.
- Issues or refuses interment, disinterment, and removal permits in conformity with legal requirements.
- Assists in registering cases of communicable disease and in maintaining case control as required by laws and regulations.
- Codes geographical locations and other data on birth and death certificates and reports of communicable disease.
- Processes birth and death certificates, guides public on vital records, acquires parental information in accordance with the Parent Opportunity Program.
- Collects and accounts for fees received for searching records, issuing burial permits, and for certified copies of vital records and prepares deposits and transmittal documents for armored car transport service.
- Assists in assembling data for the preparation of reports.
REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:
Two (2) years of work experience requiring the use of the contents of medical records or medical reports.
Completion of one (1) year (Thirty (30) semester units/Forty-five (45) quarter units) in an accredited college* including two (2) courses in human anatomy, physiology, biology, or medical terminology will be accepted for each year of the required experience.
Official transcripts must be submitted to verify the units and the successful completion of courses.
LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS:
Physical Class II – Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Customer service experience working with the public.
- Experience assisting in analyzing and interpreting data.
Applicants must receive a passing score of 70% or higher on the assessment to be added to the Eligible List.
