SUMMARY:
The Account Manager position is based out of our Des Plaines headquarters and serves as the primary point of contact for existing customers. Account Managers partner closely with Territory Sales Managers (Outside Sales) and Sr. Account Managers to strengthen customer relationships, drive retention and growth, and support long-term partnership success.
As the owner of the customer experience, the Account Manager plays a key role in delivering the remarkably different experience that defines FSI-Mission through proactive communication, strong relationship management, timely support, effective problem resolution, and seamless customer interactions. This role serves as a trusted advisor and advocate for customers while coordinating with internal teams to ensure service excellence and customer satisfaction.
Account Managers are the “heartbeat” of FSI-Mission, managing more than 500 customer relationships and up to $2.2 million in annual revenue. This position is responsible for driving customer orders, identifying growth opportunities, increasing account penetration through upselling and cross-selling initiatives, and partnering with the sales team to achieve revenue objectives. Success in this role requires a strong commitment to customer experience, relationship management, business development, and operational excellence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own the customer experience for an assigned portfolio of accounts by serving as the primary point of contact and ensuring customer needs are addressed promptly, professionally, and through completion.
- Build, develop, and maintain strong customer relationships that drive long-term partnerships, retention, and loyalty.
- Take ownership of customer requests, commitments, and follow-up activities, ensuring clear communication, accountability, and timely resolution.
- Proactively engage customers through regular outreach, account reviews, and follow-up communication to understand their needs and identify opportunities for support.
- Respond promptly to customer inquiries, concerns, and service requests, coordinating with internal teams to deliver timely and effective solutions.
- Manage customer orders and purchase order activity to ensure timely processing and execution.
- Maintain and grow existing customer revenue through relationship management, account penetration, and proactive account planning.
- Identify upselling, cross-selling, and renewal opportunities while recommending solutions that add value to the customer.
- Develop a strong understanding of FSI-Mission's products, services, and capabilities to effectively support customer needs and business growth.
- Support account growth by identifying opportunities to increase customer value, expand service offerings, and strengthen overall account performance.
- Regularly follow up on open quotes, proposals, and opportunities to drive conversion and customer engagement.
- Conduct inbound and outbound customer communications, including phone calls, email correspondence, and account follow-up activities.
- Collaborate with Territory Sales Managers and internal departments to ensure alignment on customer goals, opportunities, and service execution.
- Participate in monthly account strategy meetings with the sales team and weekly Account Manager team meetings.
- Maintain accurate customer information, account activity, and communication records within company systems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- 1–3 years of experience in customer service, account management, dispatching, inside sales, customer success, or a related customer-facing role.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong customer relationships, deliver exceptional customer service, and take ownership of the customer experience through proactive communication and problem resolution.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability, with a commitment to following through on customer requests, commitments, and deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience working with CRM, ERP, or customer management software such as NetSuite, Salesforce, or similar platforms preferred.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and eager to learn, with a positive attitude and a desire to contribute to team success.
- Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and accountability with the ability to manage responsibilities independently and consistently follow through on commitments.
