Founding Engineer — Applied AI

Location: Berlin (Hybrid, 3 days/week in office)

Compensation: €60,000 – €90,000 + substantial VSOP equity & bonus

About the Mission

Doctors spend up to 68% of their time on administrative work instead of caring for patients. We are building state-of-the-art AI agents to supercharge and multiply doctors—freeing them from bureaucratic burdens so they can focus entirely on people.

We are looking for an entrepreneurial Founding Engineer — Applied AI to join our ultra-lean team in Berlin. You will work side-by-side with the CTO, own critical systems end-to-end, and ship software that runs in real hospitals within weeks.

Key Responsibilities

• Own & Scale Backend Systems: Build and maintain the Python backend powering real-time medical documentation in production.
• Build Real-Time AI Pipelines: Implement live transcription of medical conversations using streaming audio, multiple Speech-to-Text (STT) providers, quality monitoring, and automatic failovers.
• Drive Applied AI Engineering: Design and optimize our applied-AI core, including LLM evaluation pipelines, prompt optimization, multi-provider routing and fallback chains, balancing cost and latency at scale.
• Manage Infrastructure: Oversee and improve multi-cloud production infrastructure (Docker, CI/CD, observability) to ensure absolute reliability in clinical settings.
• Personalize the AI Experience: Analyze LLM traces, detect doctor edits, and create memory architectures to automate future documentation per practice.
• Shape the Product: Launch greenfield AI features, build light frontend integrations as needed, and communicate directly with customers to gather feedback.

What We Are Looking For (Must-Haves)

• Strong Engineering Foundation: At least 3 years of professional coding experience with strong Python skills and a proven ability to build and ship projects independently (not just tickets).
• Applied AI Experience: Hands-on exposure to modern AI tools, LLM engineering, prompt optimization, routing, evaluation pipelines, and real-time systems.
• High Agency & Ownership: A startup mentality ("move fast in the fog"), comfort with ambiguity, and a proactive attitude toward solving real business and product problems.
• User Empathy: Deep empathy for doctors and patients, with a genuine motivation for the healthcare mission.
• Communication & Location: Conversational German language skills (B2) and willingness to work hybrid from our Berlin office (3 days/week) with occasional travel to customer sites in Germany.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with FastAPI, real-time WebSocket audio pipelines, Supabase / Postgres, Docker, and CI/CD.
• Familiarity with multi-provider LLM layers and streaming STT across multiple vendors.
• Exposure to Dart / Flutter (Windows desktop & Web).
• A MedTech, MINT, or clinical background (or serious self-taught shipped projects).
