Job Description Summary:

Faegre Drinker has an opportunity for a Senior Analytics Engineer to work with our Technology and Innovation team in our Chicago, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, New York City or Washington, D.C. office. You will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to contributing to the Gold semantic layer for the firm’s enterprise data lake and sets the standards that make the firm’s two primary consumption layers - Microsoft Power BI (the firm’s primary business intelligence platform) and Databricks AI/BI (Databricks AI/BI, including Genie conversational analytics) - trusted, consistent, and AI-ready. This position will work with other talented individuals who share a passion for doing great work in the best interest of our clients.

Job Description:

What you would do:

• Owns the Gold dimensional model (star schemas) across areas such as client, matter, timekeeper, and practice-group dimensions, producing curated, AI-ready data products
• Leads delivery of executive dashboards and self-service analytics in Microsoft Power BI
• Authors approved firm metric definitions once via Databricks Unity Catalog Metric Views  to eliminate metric drift; implements definitions ratified by the firm’s data-governance cadence
• Sets standards for modeling, Power BI, and Databricks Genie curation/grounding; mentors mid-level and junior Analytics Engineers
• Partners with key stakeholders to ensure that Gold data products are consumable by the firm AI offerings, and resolves cross-system definitional questions in partnership with the governance cadence
• Special projects and other duties as assigned

The anticipated initial annual salary range for someone who is hired into this position is $139,300 - $159,200.

 

Actual initial salary may be above or below the above-identified range and will be based on the relevant skills, training, experience, and other job-related factors, including the location where the position is filled, in all cases consistent with applicable law.  This is an exempt role and the initial salary range listed above is just one component of Faegre Drinker's total compensation and benefits package for professional staff, which includes, but is not limited to, a discretionary bonus; life, health, accident, and disability insurance; and a 401(k) plan.

 

What is required:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical or quantitative discipline, or equivalent experience
• 8+ years of analytics/data engineering experience
• Expert-level SQL and dimensional modeling skills
• Deep, hands-on Microsoft Power BI expertise (data modeling, DAX, enterprise dashboard delivery)
• Experience defining and governing business metrics/KPIs across multiple source systems
• Ability to mentor and set technical standards for less experienced analytics engineers
• Experience partnering with data engineers to translate Silver-layer structures, key-resolution logic, and source data constraints into Gold-layer dimensional models
• Databricks AI/BI and Genie experience strongly preferred.
