Job Expectations

A fantastic opportunity has presented itself for a Technical Specialist – Disaster Recovery and BCP reporting to the Executive Manager, Network Operations Support.

A bit about your role

As part of the Production Engineering team within Network Engineering, you will play a critical role in ensuring the resilience, recoverability and operational readiness of nbn's production network. You will be responsible for supporting the governance, planning, coordination, testing and continual improvement of Disaster Recovery (DR), Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Temporary Network Infrastructure (TNI) capabilities.

In this role, you will lead and coordinate disaster recovery and business continuity testing activities across the production network environment. This includes planning and facilitating recovery exercises, validating recovery procedures, assessing failover and contingency capabilities, documenting outcomes, identifying risks, tracking remediation activities and driving continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen network resilience and operational readiness.

You will work closely with Operations Support, NMC, MIM, Technology & Solutions, Network Technology Implementation, SEO Engineering and external vendors to ensure resilience and recovery requirements are embedded within network designs, operational processes and lifecycle activities. You will also provide specialist advice and guidance on resilience, recoverability and operational readiness considerations across network projects, technology refreshes and infrastructure changes.

Additionally, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of governance artefacts, testing frameworks, operational standards and reporting mechanisms that support compliance with business continuity and disaster recovery objectives. Building strong stakeholder relationships and ensuring lessons learned are translated into future planning and operational practices will be key to your success. The role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the continual enhancement of network resilience and recoverability across nbn's production network environment.

A bit about you

You are a highly capable technical professional with experience in disaster recovery, business continuity, operational resilience or network operations within a large and complex environment. You have a strong understanding of recovery planning, operational readiness and resilience principles, coupled with the ability to coordinate testing programs and manage multiple stakeholders.

You bring excellent analytical, planning and organisational skills and are comfortable managing complex initiatives with limited supervision. Your ability to identify risks, drive remediation activities and influence positive outcomes allows you to effectively support operational continuity objectives.

Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, as you will be working across a broad range of technical and operational teams. Experience within telecommunications, critical infrastructure or large-scale network environments will be highly regarded, particularly where you have been involved in disaster recovery testing, continuity planning or operational resilience programs.

Application Process

You may find that your experience does not match every requirement listed but, if this role has piqued your interest or resonates with where you are in your career, we encourage you to apply rather than self-select out. We are interested in transferable skills and your skills and perspective could be exactly what we would value to strengthen our team.
