At Tennis Australia, we’re creating a more playful world through tennis – for everyone.

We’re a team of imaginative and passionate people who believe in the power of sport to make a difference. If you're ready to help us serve up real impact, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re committed to reflecting the communities we work and play in. We strongly encourage applications from women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTQI+ individuals, people with disability, and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Tennis Australia is seeking enthusiastic, organised and reliable Ballkid Team Leaders to support the delivery of the Ballkid Program for the Workday Canberra International as part of the Summer of Tennis. This casual role will assist with the management and day-to-day running of the Ballkids area during trials, training and tournament mode, helping create a safe, inclusive and high-quality experience for players, ballkids, staff, volunteers and stakeholders.

About the role

As a Ballkid Team Leader, you will support the Ballkid Coordinators and Ballkid Manager across training, operations and event delivery. You will assist with organising and delivering Ballkid Training Sessions, coordinating ballkids, staff and volunteers, supporting daily rosters and briefings, responding to enquiries, maintaining key communication channels, and assisting with program activities such as inductions, finals squad selection and event briefings.

This role requires strong leadership, clear communication, attention to detail and the ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced event environment. You will be expected to work collaboratively, exercise sound judgement, maintain confidentiality, and contribute positively to the overall success of the tournament.

Role requirements

  • Demonstrated experience supervising or leading teams in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and engage with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong teamwork, organisation, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, resilient and adaptable under pressure.
  • A proactive, positive and reliable approach, with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Tennis, tournament or Ballkids program knowledge is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in coaching, education or participant development is desirable.
  • Ability to meet minimum availability requirements for Ballkid and staff training, and full availability during the tournament period.
  • Availability to work weekends, public holidays and evenings as required.
  • Current Police Check and Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain them.
  • Member Protection Declaration required; First Aid certification is desirable.

Key dates and availability

The role is casual and runs from September 2026 to January 2027.

Staff must be available for a minimum of six days during the trial and training period.

Applicants must be available for the following Ballkid Training and Assessment dates:

  • Saturday 10 October 2026
  • Saturday 24 October 2026
  • Saturday 7 November 2026
  • Saturday 21 November 2026
  • Sunday 22 November 2026
  • Saturday 12 December 2026
  • Sunday 13 December 2026

Please note that while staff are required to be available for a minimum of six training days, this does not necessarily mean you will be rostered to work every session.

The tournament employment period is Friday 2 January to Saturday 9 January 2027, with full availability required during the tournament period. This includes availability to work weekends, public holidays and evenings as required. Dates are subject to slight change.

How to apply

If you think you’re up to the challenge, we’d love to hear from you! Please submit your resume via our online application system. Applicants should also confirm their availability for the training and tournament periods and advise whether they currently hold, or are willing to obtain, the required checks. Please note, only applications submitted through our system will be considered. If you need assistance or adjustments to fully participate in the application process, please contact [email protected].

Applications close 30/09/2026, however we will be reviewing applications as they are received, therefore this role may close sooner if we find the right candidate.
