Job Description Summary
As a Lead Embedded Computing Research Engineer at GE Vernova's Advanced Research Center, you will be responsible for architecting, implementing, and testing edge solutions for embedded systems that power industrial automation, networking, and enterprise software platforms will bring hands-on technical leadership to the full development lifecycle from concept and architecture through implementation, integration, and verification.You will have the opportunity to contribute to and help lead multimillion-dollar R&D programs aligned with GE Vernova's energy businesses such as Power Generation, Renewables, Grid, and Electrification as well as with U.S. Government agencies including the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Department of Energy (DOE). The technologies you develop will be matured and transitioned into GE Vernova business products.
You will collaborate across GE Vernova businesses, suppliers, government partners, national laboratories, universities, and strategic business partners to drive innovative embedded computing solutions for GE Vernova.

Roles and Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Architect, implement, and test edge and embedded software solutions for industrial automation, networking, and enterprise software platforms.
- Serve as a technical lead on R&D tasks, translating program requirements into robust embedded system designs and implementation plans.
- Develop firmware and application software in C/C++ (and related languages) for resource-constrained, real-time embedded platforms.
- Build, execute, and automate test plans, including unit, integration, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), and system-level verification.
- Support the maturation and transition of research prototypes into GE Vernova product platforms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, national laboratories, universities, and government partners to deliver program milestones.
- Contribute to proposals, technical reports, and program reviews for internal leadership and government sponsors.
- Apply secure-by-design and cybersecurity best practices across the embedded software lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with at least 1-5 years of industry experience.
- Bachelor or master’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with at least 3-5 years of industry experience.
- A minimum of 3+ years of professional experience in embedded systems, firmware, or edge software development.
- 3+ years of Demonstrated proficiency in embedded software development using C and/or C++.
- 3+ years of experience with microcontrollers, microprocessors, or SoC-based platforms and associated hardware interfaces (e.g., SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet)
- 3+ years of experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA, IEC 61850, MQTT, BACnet) and familiarity with data serialization formats (Protocol Buffers, JSON).
- 3+ years of experience integrating existing real-time analytics, anomaly detection, and secure data pipelines into edge and embedded applications
- 3+ years of experience developing Linux systems or Real-time operating systems
- 3+ years of experience with the full embedded systems development lifecycle, including requirements, design, implementation, testing, and debugging.
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with industrial control systems, PLCs, or edge controllers within energy grid operations, industrial automation, or renewable energy infrastructure is a significant plus.
- Experience with RTOS task scheduling, thread priorities and strict time deadlines
- Full-Stack programing experience delivering Edge to cloud solutions
- Experience developing real-time operating systems (RTOS) and/or bare-metal environments.
- Experience working with Docker/ Kubernetes
- Knowledge of memory management and pointer manipulation
- Knowledge of asymmetric and symmetric multiprocessor concepts, virtual memory, and their real-time implications
- Experience with developing test automation, building scripts, and rapid prototyping using python, or other scripting languages
- Working knowledge of embedded cybersecurity, secure boot, cryptographic primitives, or ICS/OT security standards (e.g., IEC 62443, NIST 800-82)
- Familiar working with JavaScript/TypeScript for front-end development and C++/Python for interacting with system-level services or embedded APIs.
- Familiar working with CI/CD environments such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions
- Experience with multi-threaded applications and computer networking
- Experience with Xilinx and/or Intel (Altera) FPGA devices, tools, and ecosystems (e.g., ModelSim, Intel Quartus, Xilinx Vivado)
- Familiar with digital logic design, including FSMs, pipelining, and resource optimization
- Familiarity with at least one of the high-speed and standard interfaces (UART or SPI or I²C or Ethernet or PCIe, DDR)
- Experience developing test benches and performing functional verification
- Knowledge of clock domain crossing (CDC) techniques and metastability mitigation
- Experience with FPGA or ASIC design using Verilog, System Verilog, or VHDL
- Experience in FPGA design flow including simulation, synthesis, place & route, static timing analysis, timing closure.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $98,400.00 and $164,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
