DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

Located adjacent to UW Medical Center - Northwest, the Spine Center at Meridian Pavilion uses the latest technology and a multidisciplinary approach to treat simple and complex spine problems. We match each patient with the right doctor and the right treatment plan. Our team provides care for common spinal conditions such as sciatica, slipped discs, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, as well as neck and lower back pain. We offer a variety of nonsurgical therapeutic, minimally invasive and advanced surgical procedures.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Processes incoming referrals for the UW Medicine Spine Center including clinic visits and imaging requests.

  · Assist with developing and maintaining list of diagnosis treated by provider

  · Schedules patient appointments

  · Obtains and verifying demographic and financial information

  · Processes patient paperwork

  · Triages patient telephone calls to clinical staff

  · May provide clinic charges for visit types, procedures, and surgeries to patients or prospective patients to the clinic.

  · Contacts review organizations and insurance companies to ensure prior approval requirements are met before patients enter the system such as pre-authorization and referrals; present necessary medical information such as history, diagnosis, prognosis, and length of stay prior to admissions; provide specific medical information to financial services to maximize reimbursement to the hospital and physicians.

• Obtains all necessary medical records, diagnostic studies, pathology items, etc. that are needed for patient care.

  Scheduling: Clinic

  · Schedule patient appointments by following the appropriate guidelines by clinic, department and physician.

  · Enter directly into appointment system or triage to appropriate person.

  · Provides scheduling options for both Spine Center and UWMC Neurological Surgery locations

  Other duties as requested

REQUIREMENTS

• High School graduation or equivalent

• AND two years Patient Services Specialist 2 experience.

• Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
