Global Subsurface Solutions (GSS) Oil & Gas Solutions is a global organization within Subsurface which delivers high-quality, high impact, subsurface technical products to address critical business challenges across bp. GSS Reservoir Simulation Engineers are a part of the Global Modelling Team (GMT) within Reservoir & Base Management Specialists Unit and specialize in reservoir simulation and dynamic modelling across all reservoir types and across the value cycle from access to mature field production. The engineers apply advanced simulation methods and deep reservoir engineering experience to rigorously quantify uncertainty and inform investment decisions. 

What you will deliver: 

• Lead and oversee reservoir simulation modelling studies end-to-end framing (grid design, upscaling, history matching and probabilistic forecasting) working within the bp Reservoir Modelling Guidelines and closely with other members of the Global Modelling Team (GMT) and regional teams. 

• Set model and uncertainty strategy so that ensemble history-matching and forecasts robustly inform investment decisions and resource progression. 

• Provide technical assurance and peer review of simulation models and deliverables produced by others, ensuring fit-for-purpose scope, numerical integrity and quality. 

• Work closely with the regional teams to optimize field development plans (ADP) and plan new wells, using dynamic simulation to evaluate development options, well placement, and recovery schemes (e.g. waterflood, gas/EGR, EOR, CCS where relevant). 

• Lead delivery of long-term production forecasts and the ensemble probabilistic ranges (P10, P50, P90) that underpin them. 

• Lead or contribute to multi-disciplinary reservoir reviews, integrating geoscience, petrophysics and reservoir engineering inputs into the dynamic model. 

• Own the toughest simulation challenges (e.g. multi-contact fluids, dynamic displacement in carbonates, grid-size/benchmarking, simulator translation) and develop recommended positions for the discipline. 

• Support adoption of evolving tools and workflows, including the Nexus to ECHELON transition, TDRM automation and AI-enabled modelling workflows. 

• Coach and mentor junior modellers and contribute to the reservoir simulation community (Reservoir Simulation CoP, Static Reservoir Modelling CoP, Practical Reservoir Simulation Training). 

What you will need to be successful: 

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Petroleum Engineering or similar 

• 15+ years of experience in multiple Reservoir Development roles, with a strong track record in reservoir simulation and dynamic modelling 

• Strong commitment to safety 

• Deep, hands-on expertise with reservoir simulators (e.g. Nexus, ECHELON) and the associated simulation toolkit (e.g. grid design, upscaling, PVT/relative permeability characterization, history matching) 

• Experience with ensemble and uncertainty workflows (e.g. TDRM/Fortuna) to generate probabilistic forecasts that inform development and investment decisions 

• Strong understanding of fluid flow characteristics of oil and gas reservoirs to determine reservoir performance 

• Experience in waterflood management and/or gas reservoir management. 

• Deep experience with classical RE methods and toolkits (e.g. MBAL, Kappa Saphir, DCA) to condition and validate simulation models 

• Strong understanding and ability to effectively communicate subsurface uncertainty 

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing, including distilling complex simulation results into clear headline messages for non-specialist and senior audiences 

• Strong collaboration skills within a multi-disciplinary team setting and positive influencing and integration skills in a cross-functional setting 

• Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment across time zones

Future Location Notice:  This role will start in Sunbury, London. bp has announced a planned office move to Timber Square, London, with all positions currently advertised in Sunbury, including this one, expected to relocate around Q4 2027-Q1 2028.
