Job Overview

Summary

The Mechanical Assembler III is an experienced-level manufacturing position responsible for the assembly, installation, inspection, and testing of complex mechanical components, subassemblies, and equipment in accordance with engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), work instructions, specifications, and company quality standards.

 

This position works independently with limited supervision and applies strong mechanical knowledge and assembly experience to complete complex assignments, identify and troubleshoot assembly issues, and support safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing operations. The Mechanical Assembler III may also provide technical guidance and support to less-experienced assemblers as needed.

 

Rate

$22.25/hr - $29.30/hr

Responsibilities

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

• Independently assemble complex mechanical components, subassemblies, and equipment in accordance with engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, and work instructions.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, diagrams, specifications, and other technical documentation.
• Identify and verify components, materials, hardware, and tooling required to complete assigned assembly work.
• Install and assemble valves, regulators, fittings, tubing, piping components, instrumentation, supports, brackets, and other mechanical components as applicable.
• Perform mechanical fastening, fitting, alignment, installation, adjustment, and final assembly of components and equipment.
• Use hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, torque tools, and other production equipment safely and effectively.
• Use measuring equipment to verify dimensions, alignment, clearances, fit, and proper component installation.
• Follow specified torque requirements, assembly sequences, cleanliness requirements, manufacturing procedures, and quality standards.
• Perform assembly work associated with industrial gas, pressure-containing, cryogenic, or similar equipment in accordance with established procedures and training.
• Maintain proper cleanliness and handling of components intended for gas, pressure, or other controlled service applications.
• Perform in-process inspections to verify workmanship and conformance to drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
• Identify and troubleshoot mechanical assembly issues, fit-up problems, alignment concerns, incorrect components, and other production discrepancies with limited supervision.
• Recognize conditions that could affect product quality, safety, cleanliness, or system integrity and escalate concerns as appropriate.
• Identify and report damaged, defective, incorrect, or nonconforming materials and components.
• Communicate drawing, material, or assembly discrepancies to Production, Quality, Engineering, Materials, or other appropriate personnel.
• Complete and maintain accurate production documentation, travelers, work orders, inspection records, and other required documentation.
• Maintain required material and component identification and traceability throughout the assembly process.
• Assist with complex, non-routine, first-build, or new product assembly activities as assigned.
• Support basic mechanical or functional testing of completed assemblies in accordance with established procedures and training.
• Provide technical guidance and assembly support to less-experienced employees as needed.
• Assist with training employees on established assembly methods, tools, procedures, safety requirements, and quality expectations.
• Identify and recommend opportunities to improve assembly methods, tooling, workflow, safety, quality, and productivity.
• Safely operate applicable production and material-handling equipment when properly trained and authorized.
• Maintain tools and equipment in proper working condition and report damaged or unsafe equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Consistently meet established safety, quality, productivity, and schedule expectations.
• Work collaboratively with Production, Quality, Engineering, Materials, and other departments to support manufacturing requirements.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but may serve as a mentor for lower level employees.

 

Work Environment

This job operates in a warehouse environment. This role routinely utilizes the operation of material handling equipment and various tools and machinery. 

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and work with various materials and/or tools, as well as work and bend at different heights, in various temperatures, and be on feet for an extended period of time. 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in mechanical assembly, manufacturing, industrial technology, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum 4–6 years of progressively responsible mechanical assembly, equipment assembly, manufacturing, or related industrial experience.
• Demonstrated experience independently completing complex mechanical assemblies using engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, and work instructions.
• Experience with industrial gas equipment, cryogenic equipment, pressure-containing assemblies, process equipment, or similar industrial systems preferred.
• Experience assembling and installing valves, regulators, fittings, tubing, piping components, instrumentation, or related mechanical components preferred.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, torque tools, and measuring equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and troubleshoot mechanical assembly, fit-up, alignment, and component issues.
• Experience in an industrial equipment, engineered-to-order, fabrication, process equipment, or similar manufacturing environment preferred.
• Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and directly related experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of manufacturing and mechanical assembly practices.
• Ability to independently read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, specifications, and work instructions.
• Knowledge of mechanical components such as valves, fittings, regulators, tubing, piping components, fasteners, supports, and related equipment.
• Working knowledge of safe assembly practices associated with industrial gas, cryogenic, pressure-containing, or similar equipment preferred.
• Proficiency in the safe and effective use of hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, torque tools, and assembly equipment.
• Working knowledge of measuring equipment and dimensional verification techniques.
• Understanding of proper component orientation, fit-up, alignment, torque, cleanliness, and installation requirements.
• Ability to identify and troubleshoot assembly and component discrepancies with limited supervision.
• Ability to perform complex assignments independently while following established procedures and quality requirements.
• Ability to recognize and communicate conditions that may affect product quality, safety, or system integrity.
• Strong attention to detail, workmanship, and quality.
• Ability to prioritize assigned work and meet established production schedules.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to provide technical guidance and support to less-experienced employees without direct supervisory responsibility.
• Basic computer skills and ability to accurately complete required production documentation.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a manufacturing team.
