Downtown San Diego is located on San Diego Bay. Balboa Park encompasses several mesas and canyons to the northeast, surrounded by older, dense urban communities including Hillcrest and North Park. To the east and southeast lie City Heights, the College Area, and Southeast San Diego. To the north lies Mission Valley and Interstate 8. The communities north of the valley and freeway, and south of Marine Corps Air Station Mirmar, include Clairemont, Kearny Mesa, Tierrasanta, and Navajo. Stretching north from Miramar are the northern suburbs of Mira Mesa, Scripps Ranch, Rancho Penasquitos, and Ranch Bernado. The far northeast portion of the city encompasses Lake Hodges and the San Pasqual Valley, which holds an agricultural preserve. Carmel Valley and Del Mar Heights occupy the northwest corner of the city. To their south are Torrey Pines State Reserve and the business center of the Golden Triangle. Further south are the beach and coastal communities of La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, and Ocean Beach. Pont Loma occupies the peninsula across San Dego Bay from downtown. The communities of South San Diego (an Enclave), such as San Ysidro and Otay Mesa, are located next to the Mexico-United States border and are physically separated from the rest of the city by the cities of National City and Chula Vista. A narrow strip of land at the bottom of San Diego Bay connects these southern neighborhoods with the rest of the city.

San Diego area has been variously categorized as having either a semi-arid climate or a Mediterranean climate. San Diego's climate is characterized by warm, dry summers and mild winters, with most of the annual precipitation falling between December and March. The city has a mild climate year-round, with an average of 201 days above 70 °F and low rainfall (9–13 inches annually).

 

Responsibilities

As a Dermatology Nurse Practitioner you will:

 

 

Clinical Care & Specialized Procedures

• Administer systemic, biologic, photo, and laser therapies for dermatologic conditions within authorized scope.

• Provide immediate emergency stabilization and crisis intervention (including CPR and lifesaving procedures) in the absence of a physician.

Systems & Clinical Documentation

• Utilize MHS, MTF, CHCS, and ADM systems to manage care, log diagnoses, and enter CPT codes.

• Document all patient encounters, including progress notes, prescriptions, procedures, consults, and admission/discharge paperwork.

Coordination, Referrals, & Administration

• Consult with primary care and specialty providers regarding patient evaluation and treatment plans.

• Coordinate inpatient admissions with attending dermatologists and inpatient ward teams.

• Facilitate care transitions via referrals, follow-up calls, and the preparation of medical boards, profiles, insurance forms, and Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) paperwork.

 Education & Preceptorship 

• Serve as a preceptor and instructor for Graduate Medical Education (GME) candidates, including medical residents, students, Physician Assistants, and APRNs.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document.Basic Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse (Dermatology):Degree: A graduate or higher level degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program  is required. 

Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience of advanced nursing principles, concepts, and practices, supplemented by highly specialized clinical knowledge in the field of dermatology. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
