  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Certified eligible for hire by the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts;
  • Have no prior felony convictions or suspended imposition of a sentence;
  • A residence of St. Clair County, Illinois prior to completion of probationary period

TITLE: Probation Officer - Adult Unit


Probation Officers of the Adult Unit are appointed by the Director of Court Services and Probation with 

the approval of the Chief Circuit Judge and are under the direct supervision of the Adult Unit Supervisors.  Adult Unit Probation Officers supervise adults sentenced to probation for traffic, misdemeanor, or felony charges.  All Officers appointed to the Adult Unit may serve a six month probationary period at the discretion of the Director.  


QUALIFICATIONS:


All applicants for the position of Adult Unit Officer will minimally meet the following qualifications:


  • Obtained a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Certified eligible for hire by the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts;
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, resident of Illinois within 90 days of appointment, and a resident of St. Clair County prior to the completion of the probationary period;
  • Have no prior felony convictions and/or felony suspended imposition cases;
  • Possess a valid driver's license;
  • Possess strong verbal, written, and  inter-personal communication skills as well as strong

 organizational and time management skills.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The duties and responsibilities of the Adult Unit Probation Officer will include,  but are not limited to the following:


  • Supervise a caseload of adult offenders in accordance with Administrative Office of Illinois Courts and Departmental policy/procedures;
  • Conduct intake interviews with all adults sentenced to probation and complete

 assessments/reassessments;

  • Document all contacts   relating to office visits, home visits, school attendance, community

 service, treatment, urinalysis tests, employment, and any other pertinent data relative to the case;

  • File revocation reports with the State's Attorney;
  • Testify in Court proceedings related to the case (i.e. revocation hearings, sentencing hearings, reviews, etc.);
  • Provide monthly reports related to activity of the caseload;
  • Obtain urinalysis and DNA samples from probationers;
  • Successfully complete Probation Officer training required by the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts or the Department;
  • Duties as assigned by Director, Deputy Director(s), or Supervisor(s) to assist with the functioning of the department.
