DESCRIPTION:
Join our team at Thermo Fisher Scientific and contribute to critical scientific research and innovation. As a Field Service Engineer III, you'll provide expert installation, maintenance, and repair services for sophisticated analytical and microscopy equipment. Working with advanced technology, you'll deliver outstanding technical support while building strong relationships with customers across research institutions, universities, and industrial facilities. This role offers excellent opportunities for professional growth and development within an organization dedicated to serving science.

REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications & Field Service Requirements

  • Advanced Degree plus 3 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating sophisticated analytical instruments.
  • Preferred fields of study include Electronics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrated expertise with ultra-high vacuum systems, high-voltage electronics, and complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Strong diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex hardware and software issues and take ownership through to resolution.
  • A high level of autonomy, self-reliance, and personal accountability is essential. The successful candidate must be comfortable organizing their own schedule, prioritizing customer needs, making decisions in the field, and managing service activities independently.
  • Strong customer focus, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a proven ability to build and maintain positive customer relationships.
  • Ability to work independently at customer sites while maintaining strong collaboration, communication, and knowledge sharing with the wider Field Service team.
  • A strong field-oriented mindset and willingness to travel are essential. The position involves regular travel across the assigned territory, primarily in South France, and candidates should be comfortable spending significant time on the road and travelling directly to customer sites.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel approximately 25–50%, with occasional travel outside the assigned territory when business needs require it.
  • Flexibility is an important part of the Field Service Engineer role. While the position is primarily based on daytime working hours, customer requirements, travel constraints, equipment issues, or urgent service needs may occasionally require flexibility in start and finish times.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, customer situations, and urgent service requirements while maintaining a high level of professionalism and customer service.
  • Professional working proficiency in English; additional languages are beneficial.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical documentation, schematics, service manuals, and engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency with Windows operating systems, networking, and standard business software.
  • Ongoing technical training and certifications will be required to maintain and develop expertise on supported technologies and products.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or training colleagues is preferred.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs (approximately 23 kg) and work safely in laboratory and customer environments.
  • Must follow all applicable safety protocols and be comfortable working in cleanroom environments when required.
  • Join a dynamic, motivated, and collaborative Field Service team where technical expertise, autonomy, mutual support, continuous learning, and customer satisfaction are highly valued.
