FINANCIAL CONTROLLER – ACCOUNTING & FINANCE – BERMUDA – 10% TAX – HR304

About this opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller to lead the company's accounting and financial reporting functions. The Financial Controller will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the company's financial records, overseeing the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations, and providing accurate financial information to senior management to support business decisions.

The successful candidate will be a strong technical accountant and commercially minded finance professional with excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.

Key responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Accounting

• Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions
• Manage the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and other accounting functions
• Lead and improve the month-end and year-end closing processes
• Prepare financial reports, management accounts, and variance analyses for senior management
• Ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company policies
• Review account reconciliations and investigate unusual or significant variances

Financial Controls & Compliance

• Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal financial controls and accounting policies
• Ensure compliance with applicable statutory, regulatory, and reporting requirements
• Monitor financial processes to identify risks, control weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement
• Coordinate with external auditors, banks, and other financial stakeholders
• Support internal and external audits and ensure timely resolution of audit findings

Budgeting & Financial Planning

• Support the annual budgeting and forecasting processes
• Monitor actual performance against budgets and forecasts
• Provide meaningful analysis of financial performance, trends, and variances
• Partner with operational leaders to improve financial performance and cost management
• Assist senior management with financial modeling, business cases, and strategic analysis

Leadership & Process Improvement

• Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting and finance team
• Establish clear objectives, processes, and performance standards for the finance function
• Identify opportunities to automate and streamline accounting and reporting processes

What you’ll need

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
• Professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, ACA, CMA, or equivalent is preferred
• Typically 5-10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including experience in a supervisory or management role
• Strong knowledge of financial accounting, reporting, internal controls, and audit processes
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
